i was reading today in the november '04 issue of popular mechanics mag, and read an article about the mega cab. seems that it will only be offered in the 1500 and 2500 light duty series trucks. i guess either that means that there will be no ctd/2500/3500 HD's, or that the cummins powered /2500/3500 hd models will come out in'07? i hope that this is not going to be like the power wagon truck, with only the hemi. :{

There is no such thing as a Dodge 2500 light duty. Ford had such an animal at one time. Dodge, to my knowledge never did and certainly doesn't currently.

I find that information highly unlikely. It would be very narrow minded and just plain ignorant of their customer base. Now, granted, they have historically shown a predisposition to not offering their customers everything they want, but still, this would be gross negligence in product planning, IMO. I really hope this is proved wrong quickly.

Yes. . Dodge did make a "so called" Light duty 2500. 94-97 It had a 318 (5. 2 engine) as standard equipment, Not sure about payload figures.

I stand corrected. I am however certain they don't make a 2500 LD now so the original post doesn't make sense, unless their bringing the 2500 LD back.

I glanced at that article last night, and interpreted it differently (although it could well be incorrectly). I don't remember well enough to quote exactly, but it seems to me like it said something like "the mega-cab will be available in '06 on 2500 models and in '07 on 1500s", which I then interpreted as "in '06 on HDs and in '07 on 1500s". In any case, I read it as a surprising reverse of the 3G body-style introduction.

My g/f has a 94 2500 with only 5 lugs! i tried to run the VIN but it from mexico so carfax won't run it. I am relieved to hear about this LD 2500, the mystery is now solved! Oo.

BTW- it has a 360, but i suspect that it is not the original.

They are moving diesel Ram production to St. Louis, MS from Mexico.

So they would have to be building the Mega in St. Louis if they are making a diesel version.

I used to work in Mexico - their Ram 2500's are the same as our 1500. They don't sell a 1500 in Mexico (that I know of), so her "2500" was probably an imported 1500.

By the way, they used to have a Ramcharger based on the 2nd gen 1/2 tons (it was a two door) when I was there. Probably would've sold here. Don't know why they never imported it. They also had a "Ram 4000" C&C there as well. The ones I saw had van bodies on the back.

Mega long

This is getting out of hand.

First the Power Wagon comes out and it's not going to be available in a diesel (yeah I saw the thing on the front page).

Next the mega cab comes out and rumor is that it'll only be available in short box models.

Finally there's all this.

When I was shopping for a new truck, I would've probably forgone the Cummins for the Power Wagon. Now that I'm hauling horseys with a big LQ gooseneck, I'm glad I've got the diesel.

If only they'd do the Mega Cab in a one ton - dually and long box. I'd be all over that! I'd even do the upgrade!!!

Guess I'll be living (in style) with my 2500 short box QC Cummins - there are worse things!

Just need to have those seat heaters put in for the long Wisconsin winter.

Thanks for clearing that up Juan. I had noticed that my 2500 Chevy had bigger axles and suspension than her "2500" so i just wasn't sure what to think.

they built the 1500 on the 3rd gen trucks the years before the 2500/3500 models. the feds said no to the ram charger Juan ,gm and ford have small suv type vehicles to offset ,get exemptions for bad emmissions/or mpg on the larger suv's.
