Attention: TDR Forum Junkies 
my buddy has a 04. 5 ram 2500 4x4 6spd 4dr long box the truck has about 70k miles on it. a few months ago we started hearing a gear whine on the right side of the engine. we poped the hood climbed in and went poking around with a socket extension(stethascope). what we found was this gear noise was loudest when we touched the oil filter housing/mount when i say it was loudest it was LOUD there but everywhere else it was about the same as sitting in the cab maybe a little louder but not much. our guess was oil pump gear whine.
now the problem, my buddy just called me tonight and says he thinks its getting louder. maybe its him maybe its not but regardless we want to know if this could be the sign of a problem the warrenty is almost up and he is getting worried.
one thing i think should be mentioned in case it does affect anything it seems this noise is only noticed around 1100 rpm its not a wide rpm range that you hear it but about 1100 to id say 1400 is where its most noticed and it seems to be under light load.
so what do you all think sorry for the long winded post and thank you in advance for taking the time to help
