guy's a friend has a 02 with 7000 miles and the paint is chipping off,it seems that just hitting a june bug or a fly is taking the paint off about the size of a number 2 pencil eraser any one else have paint coming off this easily, it is the hood, top of cab and the front of the fenders. any help would be appreciated Don

batman had his fender paint peel off. dodge repainted it for free. man, i would have thought that they found out the paint peeling problem by now!

The peeling paint is probably a result of poor prep or paint application, take it back. The problem the peeling paint website refers to is the result of Chrysler's limited experience with low pollution paints when they first were introduced, something they supposedly have worked out now.

illflem... should they add lead, mercury, or some other toxic chemicals to make it better? i have friends with older dodge cars, and the same thing. mmy truck is fine, except that it's black:eek: ...

98, problem isn't the actual paint ingredients but the volatile organic compounds (VOC) used as the paint carrier. These are fumes you smell around paint that go into the environment, EPA has limited them, Dodge used the new low VOC paint without through testing. Read about it here. Cause of Delamination

Local Dealer is making good.

I know this is an old thread, but there are some new developments. Last time I went to the dealer they (service dept lady) told me that, I could get it fixed at thier body shop, on my dime. Since then that person has been replaced by a new service manager from Lithia, the company that bought out our local dealership. He said that DC will not pay for the repair, but the dealership would:

1. Repaint the rocker panels.

2. Spray some type of clear crinkle finish "rockguard" over the

new paint to protect it.

I am impressed. I guess it helps that I we bought 3 vehicles from this dealer in the last 1. 5 years, but I would like to think that they treat all their customers this way. Then again, they only helped me because I was a PITA. Oh, well it worked.

I polished my 2000 Black truck last weekend and noticed that my clear coat is cracking and in some places wrinkled :( I have a lot of after market idems on my truck, like the 4. 5" skyjacker lift and the dealer is going to replace my track bar, gear box (steering) and tie rod ends. the guys at the dealership are great. After those repairs I'm going to ask for a paint job:{ I know it will never be the same :(

My truck was built last month and the paint is as soft as latex. I am a little rattled here. Makes me want to leave it in the sun to finish baking. Just the slightest scrape takes it right off or dings it. Had the Rhino put it today but bed had major scrapes just from sliding a plastic barrel out. Something is very wrong here. George

I just picked up my truck today hope that mine is not affected. Where were these trucks built? Mine was built in Mexico. I heard that they use better paint down there but cannot confirm that.

dalexander,

Mine is a Mexican eltrucka as well. Slate or whatever they call it. Oh yeah, graphite. HO, ST long bed working boy. Just put some charcoal aluminum screen in front of the radiators and coolers. Bug weather, ya know. Hope that paint hardens up. Lacquer used to be like that. George

Chipper was Hecho en Mexico.

I usually call my pickup whatever color it is. I. E. Red/Silver 91 was "Ol' Red", Driftwood 95 was "Silver", and 97 White was "Whitey"

I will probably call this one "Chip" or "Chipper", since all the paint is chipping off.

As far as letting it dry or get harder good luck. This one is a year old, and the sun here is hot and bright. The paint is just as brittle and chips just as easy as the day I bought it.

Dodge paint warranty

Dodge won't do a thing unless the paint is peeling. About the only way to check yours for bad paint adhesion is to take a blowgun to one of the chips. If a big flake comes flying off, you have bad paint adhesion. Then D-C will fix it. You could strip about all the paint off that way too.
