I don't know if this is a record but my lift pump has stopped working at 29,000 miles, 2004 305 6speed. It left me stranded until my buddy towed me home with my old 2001 CTD.

Although the truck is under warranty, I don't like the idea of moving the pump into the fuel tank so I'm going to stay stock and replace it with a new one from Hoesli Diesel ($281) and carry a spare pump. It's only a 5-10 minute job now but if the in tank pump has the same failure rate it looks like a huge job dropping the tank, empting the fuel ?

I don't know if Hoeslis' replacement pump is better or the same as the factory.

Is it just random chance to get a bad pump from Cummins.

I love my truck but, Cummins has got to be getting some bad PR from all of us stranded on the side of the road.

I don't think it was "Cummins" idea? I think Dodge or D/C designed that particular part.
