Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Bad starter contacts

Hello,



My truck has all the symptoms of worn out starter contacts (75k miles). I ordered already some new contacts from Larry B. (www.fostertruck.com), but I guess it will take about two weeks till I get the parts delivered to Europe.



So here is my question, does it make sense to take the starter apart and clean up the old contacts (to get a little bit better contact surface)? To go on driving my baby till i get the new ones.

I can get them for you alot cheaper, but since you already ordered them them I guess I cant help.

There's nothing to the contacts, simple to make your own with a piece of copper, a drill and a file.



I know a guy who made some out of a piece of smashed flat copper plumbing pipe.

Lasted much longer than two weeks till he got the right part.

As you said illflem a piece of cooper a file and a drill, it took my about 2 hours and my baby is back on the road,

with good old homemade quality contacts - just like new.



Guess the ******* would have taken about 500 bucks for a new starter + work.

It's hard to beat the parts quality and service from Larry B, I'll be buying from him again. Sure, you could make your own(I have access to 3 machine shops, and the training to do it) but the convenience and added benefit of a new solenoid, and the over-size contacts, are worth it.

Glad you got it fixed, Marcus! Whew, $500 in Austria for a starter? Is that from a Dodge dealer, or a parts store? I've seen them priced at $225 in AutoZone ...

You right with Larry B. s contacts, but i am happy that my truck is running and i can install them on cold winter weekends or when i need a greater distance between me and my wife .



Due to the fact that no Dodge vehicles are sold in Europe officially, you get spare parts only by some small dealers and they aren´t the cheapest .

Or if you are lucky you get some parts by Chrysler dealers and if you are really lucky the part you need is at stock somewhere in Europe otherwise you have to wait til it´s here.



Nevertheless it´s great fun to drive a full size truck when you know that there are running only a few hundreds of them here in Europe.
