2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Steering solution

My truck has recently picked up a vibration & I'm having trouble locating the source. It is most noticeable between say 1100 & 1500 rpm & at light throttle loads. is smoothes out but does not totally disappear with heavier throttle & higher speed. It vanishes immediately if I back out of the throttle. I feel it in the steering wheel & through the floor. The universal joints & carrier baring seem tight. Could it have something to do with my hot rod Vp44? Any ideas?

darkhorse,

Did you actually drop the driveshaft to check the u-joints? They can feel as if there is nothing wrong with them when in place but still be dry and stiff. The only way to properly check them is to remove them and check for wear, looseness, being dry, and having stiff movement.

Hope this helps.

Godspeed,
Trent

That's the first thing I'd check too. I just replaced both my rear joints which felt tight, but I was getting a light sqealing noise under load. Sure enough, when I pulled the joint closest to the transfer case, nothing but metal filings came out of one of the bearing caps. They were the factory originals, (non-greasable) and the seal had gone on that bearing cap. I made sure to replace them with greaseable u-joints.
