Thought I'd post my Water Pump story... About 3 months ago I started to smell coolant when I'd walk around the front of the truck after driving it. But I couldn't see any leakage. I sure smelled it though. So I just waited and watched. About a month ago I started to notice green coolant on the front of the head casting and around the front top of the engine, but I couldn't find any leak. I would look and look, with the engine hot, cold, running and shut off, but couldn't find any actual leak. The smell and signs of green coolant got steadily worse, and I would see more and more coolant on the front top of the engine, but I could NEVER find an actual leak. It drove me nuts! Finally about 5 days ago I thought I found the culprit... I seemed to see a small leak around the top Rad. hose at the clamp. Since RColston and I were going to kill our Dowel Pins, and he lived close to a dealer who had a hose, he picked up one for me and I thought that would fix it. When we were killing the DP, I disconnected the alternator and then Rick noticed the water pump seemed to be leaking. I pulled on the pulley and... man alive... it was loose as a goose and when I pulled the pulley toward the front of the truck it came about a half-inch forward (!) and started leaking like crazy! PROBLEM FOUND! AT LAST! After a few calls we found a 5-star dealer, Moss Bros. Chrysler/Dodge in Redlands, Ca. , and even though it was 3:50 p. m. on Saturday, he had a Cummins B re-con water pump in stock. $101 plus an additional $20 core charge. Whew! That pump is really a well-designed little unit. Comes with a big fat neoprene washer instead of the flat gasket most pumps come with. Only 2 bolts hold it on and you can't put it on wrong. Great engineering!

Sorry, I posted this on the Comp. forum when I meant to post it on the 12-valve forum and now... I can't figure out how to change it over.
