bad Windows virus

If any of you are running Windows 2000 or Windows XP, get the virus patch immediately from Microsoft. The new worm virus shuts down your internet access, and then you can't get on to the Microsoft site to get the patch to fix the problem. There is no easy way to fix the problem without the patch.



Luckily we had ONE computer dealer in our whole area who had the patch before the main problem started yesterday. Everyone else was screwed. He had about 200 people standing in line for him to download it on their computers.



Luckily he was a great guy, and not a creep charging $200 or anything like that.



But if you have procrastinated updating, do it now...

Bunch of folks at work procrastinated even after several warnings to update in the last couple of weeks. They were paying the price yesterday trying to get their computers going again...

Me I'm bass acwards, first thing I did with my new computer is remove XP from it and load Windows '98, it's immune to the worm.

If you're running XP, click on start then go up to "Windows update", follow instructions and you can download the patch. bg cli

When I went to the MS website to download the patch, the instructions mentioned that XP has a built-in firewall. Mine was already turned on, but after seeing it, I enabled the logging feature (don't tell the tree huggers). After a couple of days, the log file has 2675 entries in it. I seemed to have survived the patch. Although far from perfect, I think XP is the best one yet.

I almost never update. Just so happened that I did last week. Took 1 hour downloading all the updated stuff. I'm now glad that I did.

The only thing that I dont like about XP is there's no recovery disc.
