Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Baffled... turbo

Can anyone out there tell me what the baffle in the inlet of the turbo on my 95' is for? I took it in and out several times to see if I could tell any difference in performance,I didn't but I do appear to get more turbo whine without it. If all it is for is noise suppression it's staying out.

Do you have a BHAF? I know some guys see more whistle with the silencer ring out in conjunction with a BHAF. Its a good excuse to do another mod... .

You'll have more whistle no matter what intake you have when you take it out, thus the name ''silencer ring''. It helps silence the whistle of the turbo, it does nothing for performance whatsoever and no effects are made when removing it.

what does this baffle look like? are you sure it's not a TAG, it looks like a screen in front of the turbo

It's not a baffle, it's a ring... . thin piece of metal in a cone shape. If you just pop off the intake hose you can see the ring, it's held in by a large snap ring.

Silencer ring , that says it all , now its up to you if you like or not .

Thanks guys I was pretty sure that hunk of tin was just frills, but it pays to get a second opinion. It is now permanently removed. I'm loving the improved turbo sound. Andy
