Balance Masters

Hey Folk's,

It's been a while since I've posted anything. So I hope I'm doing this right. I read in the quarterly magazine about a member putting the balance masters on their truck, so I was wondering if anyone knows what the correct part # and cost are to purchased a set for my 04. 5 2WD.

Balance Masters is one type, the other type is called Centramatic . Order whichever you think is better.



You simply order based on the bolt circle for our lug nuts, which is 8 on 6. 5" (or 170mm). For example, the correct Centramatic part number is 300-308.

170mm is the ford SD (99-06) bolt spacing. ours is 165. 1mm if they list metric

With the Centramatics you order by year, make and model of truck so you really have to try hard to get the wrong one. They have two sets of holes (16 total) and you use the ones that fit best. I believe they fit both the Ford and Dodge. The front and rear are different also, there again you use the best fit which is clearance between the brake calipers and the balancer and the wheel. Depends also on whether you have aluminum or steel wheel as to which set goes on the front or back. Easy to see, hard to explain.

Does anyone have any use with both of these? Any advantages either way? Id like to get a set when I get some larger tires, seems like theres always some issue with balance at one speed or another.

The Centramatics cost quite a bit less and have the best warranty. They are made of aluminum which I like behind my aluminum wheels so they won't stick to the hubs (I suppose the Centramatics will stick to the hubs though). The only downside is they make a little swooshing noise when you are rolling very slow like 5-10 mph. I believe from my research that the Balance Master uses mercury to eliminate that and is also made of steel to contain the mercury. The cost of 2 balance masters is about the same as 4 Centramatics.

We use centermatics on all of our trucks, with no problems at all. I belive a set is $100???

I installed some today, I like them... . real smooth wheel.

i installed balance masters - no noticeable difference. Its difficult to find a smooth road. We'll see how long the tires last!

Did you have any vibration issues before the install?

None at all. Brand new truck, with drw's. I want to see how many miles I get on them. In principle I like the idea. Practically speaking I'll have to wait for 50k miles. As of now I have 6K.

Thanks for the info. Well, after considering the price differences between balance masters and centramatic, I decided to order the centramatics. I also ordered the rokkteck crank sensor in hopes a another mile or two. Thanks again for info.

Hello,

I installed the Rokktech crank sensor this morning. I noticed that the engine sounds a little different, less smoke on hard acceleration, more turbo noise and the engine seems to turn over faster when cranking. I couldn't tell if I had any more power or not.



Questions; Whats the best way to determine if the timing is too advanced?



I also installed the centramatics. My tires were a little out of balance and the centramatics smoothed them out. The swoosh noise that comes from them is at a very minimum. Not bad at all.



Questions; Should I have taken the weights off my tires when installing the centramatics? Also, I noticed that the ones on the front clear the brake caliper fine but, they touch the back of the factory aluminum rim.

My Centramatics touch the back of my aluminum rim too, no problem, also helps keep the brake dust off my wheels.

Bumping the thread to see if anyone has part numbers for Balance masters. I contacted them and they said they do not make them for the Dodges so I am trying to verify if I received bad information.

Hmmmmm. I have a Hummer H1 and it has a 8 x 6. 5 bolt pattern. I have had both Balancemasters and Centramatics on it. I wonder if the caliper is in the way on the Dodge? You can flip them around (if that matters).



If I get some time, I'll pull a wheel and check. PS, I like them and would buy them again.

For the driveshafts, there's not dodge part numbers. You just measure the circumference of the driveshaft and order the appropriate size.
