Balance when Rotate?

I believe the manual on my truck suggests tire rotation every 7,500 miles, but I'm leaning toward 10,000 miles instead, and just doing the oil/filter change then, too. Keeps everything straight in my head. :)



My question: would you typically balance the tires when rotating them?
 
I do mine every 10K. Never had a problem.



As for the balance, the only time I'll rebalance is if I feel a vibration or I know I've lost a wheel weight.
 
With the 315s and potential DW, I do have them rebalanced and rotated at 6000-8000 miles. I bought the Road Hazard at 4WheelParts so it is simple enough, and free, they are about a mile down the street.
 
Although I never do it, ideally you should rebalance the tires every so often. As tires wear, the balance factor also changes. For maximum tire life, rebalance the tires when you rotate them. How much longer will the tires last? Who knows... it depends on how they wear.
 
I have been rotating my tires every 7,500 miles with my oil changes. As stated before, it keeps things straight in my head. Les Schwab does the work and I have noticed that each time I have them do the rotation, they will pull the weights off the tires going to the front and re-balance them. The tires going to the rear are left alone. I must confess that I have Centramatics on all four wheels and my tires are wearing very even and smooth, to the point that the guys at Les Schwab in King City, Oregon were surprised at the eveness and appearance. ;)
 
I re balance the ones moved to the front that way the tires get a re balance every other rotation. They don't wear down evenly so its a good idea to re balance.



On my next set I am considering the balance beads which work till you dismount a tire.
 
I am doing 10k intervals on the oil changes and the fuel filter changes. They are off by 5k miles because I changed the oil the first time at 5k. I do a rotate every 5k but have never felt the need to re-balance. I get very good wear from my tires on three different trucks doing it this way.



I do like the idea of re-doing the fronts though at each rotate. Since I just do mine at home though, and there is no tire balancer in my garage, I have been getting by fine without the re-balancing.

I rotate my tires myself at each oil change too. It gives me a chance to carefully inspect each tire for road damage, imbedded objects (nails, screws, etc. ), and sidewall cracks. I haven't found I needed to re-balance since I feel no tire vibration. On the last rotation, I checked the tread depth across the width each tire with a depth gauge. I am amazed at the even tire wear considering the weight I haul 95% of the time. All six tires were at 11/32" tread depth with bit over 20K on the clock. :D
