I was having a bumping sound coming from the front end. I jacked the truck up under the frame and there was no play in either wheel.

I did notice a bumping sound when I would pry up on the tire. Tracked it to the upper shock on both side. I noticed the shock washer was not really compressed on either side. Of course, it takes a 9mm or 11/32 on top to hold the rod. I had to put a pull bar on the top to hold it. Once I was able to effectively hold the rod still, I was able to snug the shock bolt up tight and get some compression on the washer. That took care of the bumping noise.

I have put 40k miles on my truck since replacing the ball joints and steering knuckles. I will add that putting the wheel balancers on has given me a much better ride at highway speeds and my tires seem to have incredible tread life(compared to the 15-25k i got prior to the work)

I replaced the balljoints on both rigs in my sig in December. I bought the balljoints and the necessary tools from quad4x4. Its doable in a day for a first timer like I was.

I don't understand the engineering that went into the ball joint design on the 3rd gens. The uppers and lowers are not on a common axis.

Ive been thinking of orderings quads greasable ball joints. Are they quality made, do they seem heavier duty than the stockers? Just want an opinion of there product, unless u put the nongreasable stockers back in from them.

I replaced mine with greasable Napa joints and it made a world of difference, but I also did u-joints and free spin kit all at the same time. Carli is coming out with some new bomber ball joints that look pretty nice
