Clunk in Left Front Wheel area

Just read all the problems with ball joints on 4x4, Has anyone had problems with the 4x2.

The last few days I have been hearing a loud clunk when turning right and driving over a sloped curb at about a 45 degree angle in the left front wheel area.

My truck is the '03, ctd, 6speed, LWB 2wd and stock all the way.

Any guesses or info would be appreciated before I go to the service dept.

Dealer just told me my upper balljoints are getting loose and sould be replaced. I have 50,000 on my truck. Has anyone fould after market balljoints with grease fittings. I have tried NAPA and Parts Plus and they have no reference of it and they can not cross reference Dodge's part number.

Why has not all these early ball joint replacements been reported same as the Dakotas and Durangos. I'd be reporting them and calling D. C. for assistance.

The Moog ball joints are exactly same as OEM Dodge same # and casting.

JUNK! The next time the hubs will come because I put a ton of Neever Sieze on them. It will be 700 cheaper.

You ALL need to be calling and reporting this to the proper places. D. C. also. Its the only way things will get done. Call some major newspapers also.

Where do you get that info? I have used Moog products since the 70's and find they have great stuff. I have never seen a Moog Ball joint without a grease fitting. I am hoping they have one of these soon to fit mine.

Because the upper ball joints on those models would separate and possibly cause a wreck. The lowers on those are just as bad but the NHTSA didn't force DC to recall those because they just wear out prematurely and don't cause an accident.

The whole Dakota/Durango thing was because NHTSA got involved. For me I really don't care because I don't want the dealer putting the same junk back in there, I would rather do it myself and be done with it.

If I wasn't capable of doing it myself I would slip the dealer tech the better parts and tell him he can "have" the DC ones and dinner on me as a gift.

Well, checked my ball joints this weekend whilst rotating the tires. With the 33K on the rig I also wanted to do a 36k inventory. :) Toast. So I will call the dealer for new disposable ball joint appointment this week. Along with fix the passenger side speaker bass buzz and do the weather strip TSB.

I'd much rather have these problems and work toward replacing with quality ball joints and u-joints in the future than to have a funky engine. All in all still love my truck, as well as the two previous G2s. But after all the pluses of the G3s I can't see going back.

Reminds me of what the latest 05 CTD owner here at the station said the other day. Pretty soon I'll see a Cummins engine driving down the road with Dodge parts falling off along the road side. :-laf

PS: he confessed today that although his last truck was a SD he has had a CTD G1 and G2. So he isn't the diehard ferd guy he initially claimed to be.

Pulling To The Right, The Fix Was Upper And Lower Ball Joints Replaced. 21000 Miles , Waited Two Weeks For Due To Nation Wide No Stock. When I Looked At The New Ball Joints It Said Made In Mexico. After Installation Pull To The Right Went Away. I Now Hope That Dodge Could Come Up With A Fix For My High Speed Viberation.

Amen, brother! C'mon Moog... save us!

I wish someone on this board worked for Moog...

All it takes is a little effort. Call 1800-992-1997 and report your failures or go to the Dodge web page and type in info and report. They need this shoved in their face many times and it will get a reaction. Will also benifit the MANY who don't go to web sites or use a computer.

You know what really bugs me is that Moog makes the tie rods for the 03/04 models but no ball joint. I don't recall reading any threads of worn out tie rods. Talk about wasteful management, spend bucks to make a product not yet needed while ball joint sales continue to go out the door.
