Archived ball joints

replacing front u-joints on 07 mega cab with 56,000 mi



grabbed a big bar to check ball joints, pryed up and have vertical movement on both knuckles approx 1/16 of an inch by eyeball



ball joints do not move, knuckle only



replacing tires at same time, old tires were not wearing unevenly



wanted to know if this movement is normal or if we need to replace ball joints, it would be better to do it now while we have this thing apart

Yes, You should change out the ball joints! Some thing is causing your ties to wear funny, and if you have the spindles out, may as well change the ball joints.

the reason im replacing tires is because they have 56,000 miles on and they're just about at the tread wear indicators



they were not wearing unevenly



the tires were actually wearing quite well

If I remember right the manual says you can have a little play there (<. 060" I think). You might as well replace them while you've got it taken apart.

decided to put it back together yesterday



put plenty of anti-sieze on everything so it will be easier to take apart next time



didn't have enough time to do the ball joints yesterday
