We went into get an inspection and on a 2001. 5 ram 3500, the ball joints are SHOT, the guys said they have seen this a bunch on the 2001 year trucks, and some 2002, what causes this, i have no idea. But There ya go, you buy a CUMMINS, and get DODGE quality.

Kenny, from what I have heard they were just darn near dry when installed. Lack of grease, and it was on ALL of the front end parts like tie rod ends and trackbar. My 99 was the same way, the entire steering system was replaced by 50K miles:mad: . It is holding up a lot better now at 115K or so, I have only had to put one steering gear and 4 more trackbars in since then to keep it reasonably tight. Needs another steering box, but the tie rod ends and ball joints are still tight.

I checked mine the first week I had the truck. I do think they were dry or had very little grease. Don't forget the factory says they need grease every 5K miles...

What kind of grease?

I know theres about 27 different kinds of grease out there. What are the specs for the grease we would use in our front ends?
