Just went for annual safety with my truck today. Front upper balljoints are done. 100000KM or 67000miles.
Anyone know if mopar are good or would you buy aftermarket?
Also both front brake callipers are seized.....guess winter has its toll up here in Canada.
Is there anything you guys to in form of maintenance for your brake callipers to prevent this?

,
Calipers are actually siezed or is it a problem with the pins or pads or?
I do annual disassembly of all components, all 4 wheels, clean all slides, hardware, pins, pads, etc etc. Inspect boots for tears and reassemble with nickel grade antisieze. I do it on all of my vehicles, it's the only way I can get a set of pads to last long enough to actually wear them out.

Both uppers? What brought them to that conclusion?? Is this a 4WD Truck??
Do you carry a snow plow??

As far as the calipers the guide pins are probably sticking so the caliper can’t move. As JR says they need periodic lubrication as the grease will dry out and get sticky.

I have a 2008, 4X4 which is a third gen truck. My ball joints were replaced both upper and lower, on the RH and LH sides at 81,000 miles when my tie rod joint failed. I also had to have a unit BRG replaced on the RH side since it was sized and could not be removed. I used Moog ball joints for replacement parts since I wanted to be able to grease them. I now have 38,000 miles on these since replacement.

Hi Axel. Please fill out your signature with your truck info - that will help in the future for others to know what you have.

Have you checked the ball joints personally to make sure they are bad? If they are, replace with quality components. Do NOT go cheap - you will regret it. Yea, Autozone, Advance, etc all sell cheaper stuff - because they are crap and wear out fast.

I agree with what has been said, you will probably have to periodically lube the caliper pins. I do this on all my vehicles. (except the ones that don't have calipers!)

I went with Moogs last time, never again. Has never handled like it did with the OEM ball joints. Next time (this coming spring) I will either install Dynatrac or Carli.

The OEM replacements are better than the current aftermarket offerings with the exception of Dynatrac or Carli.

Good to know! I recently purchased (and of course installed) 3 moog bearings and the last one was just a little less noisy than the failing unit.

Nothing like doing a job several times just because you REALLY enjoy doing it - NOT!

I went the Carli ball joint route on my 3rd Gen truck at 65k miles. It actually takes awhile to get them broke in as they are very tight. I also just installed a new old stock Carli track bar (1st generation) and a Moog drag link. Both worn out at 83k miles. Adjusted the steering box nut about 1/8 turn. Steering tightened up nicely at least for awhile.

I ended up doing the brakes myself yesterday. Bought all Mopar including 2 new front callipers. For some reason one side was $ 20 more than the other.....also used all mopar brake pads and rotors.
The old callipers seamed fine , just the front right side the outher brake pad was worn out all the way. From now on I will clean and lube annually....
The ball joints I got from Mopar for $ 53 Canadian each. I will get them installed this Tuesday when they redo the safety. Not sure why they went, but have to say that the roads up here are horrible and have been getting worse....Can not do the speed limit unless you want your trailer airborne....
I do not plow with the truck....
Not sure how to do my signature line...2016 2500 CTD , 4x4 , Laramie Black out package.

That is mind boggling your truck needs that much work at that age and mileage...

I don't know where you live, I'm sure there are worse places than on the shoreline of the great lakes but we are definitely right up there in terms of vehicle corrosion .
High humidity year round, 100+ inches of snow/50 inches of rain on average, copious amounts of detrimental road treatments which enables the unecessarily excessive speed of countless asshats in inclement weather....all of which leads to poor road conditions as you mentioned....

I hope you resolve your trucks deficiencies to your satisfaction.

My ball joints were shot at 65,000 miles. The truck started pulling to the left really bad and the caster when checked was way out. I installed a set of XRF ball joints SO far they are ok but the jury is still out. I think even though they offer a million mile warranty I'll be replacing then with Carli the only ball joints I know for sure that last.

You might be right, however it's the same axle 2010-2013. The 13 2500 was the last year for the 5 link suspension and with out the central axle disconnect system.

Just an update, got my local mechanic to install the 2 upper balljoints as well as change the left rear e-brake assembly. ( when I did brakes the pin went trough the dust shield) while pulling of rotor.
Took the guy 7 hours....payed $ 900.00 and got my safety . Gets better jet, now at 65mph it shakes so bad you think the tire is going to fall off....not sure tough how the balljoints could affect this?

I echo this 100%. I put Moog in my old '05 and had the same results.
