ballpark figure on how much a clutch install will cost

The going rate in Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky, is about $300. That's for a straight install, no extras, such as getting the flywheel surfaced.

Thanks for the info... . I've done clutches in smaller cars, but I don't think I want to try to remove the NV5600 without a good transmission jack... .



Do you know if it is necessary to resurface the flywheel when you install the SBC clutch?

I had my SBC installed for about 3 bills, including flywheel surfacing. First-rate job, done in a few hours.

you should have flywheel resurfaced, acording to the xperts.

my sbc install was 200 bucks, nw utah. plus resurfacing which can run from 35 to 75 bucks

Man 200-300 bones, mine has been out four times now ( two of them were stockers by the dealer) and two of them i did it myself, with some help from my pit crew: ME, MYSELF and I



it takes me about 2 1/2 hours out and the same back in.



I would definately have the flywheel stone ground (not machined) if you have more than 10,000 miles on a job. be careful doing it too many times though you can take too much off and wind up with it warping on you



the 5600 only weighs 450lbs or so whats the problem.



my Dealer mechanic told me he could lift the transfer case in and out by himself too. the first time i took mine apart i wound up with it stuck into my chest (on my back) and wondering what the he!! i was going to do next.



I dont think i would want to run across him in a dark alley.

When I had the fastcoolers installed I was quoted 150. 00 when the time came. I have an 01 2wd. Don't know but 4wd may be a little higher.

Are ya tellin' me that I'd better plan on a South Bend clutch if/when I install the DD2's? Have you slipped your clutch yet with the 275's?

My stock clutch would slip on level 5 of the PM3 only, according to the way the levels go its 15 HP for every level past 0. so that would mean with as little as 60HP added, my stock clutch would not hold.

my stock clutch was ok with ez and 275s. when the dd2s were added, slipage occured 11,000 gvw at 1900 rpm wot in 4th and 5th, nv4500.

Sounds like I'd better plan on installing the DD2's and SBC at the same time, especially since our GCVW when towing is around 21,200 lbs! Heck, as long as I have the transmission out, maybe a US Gear 20% overdrive at the same time... hey, it's only money!

Same story with mine, held fine with 275s and the EZ box. As soon as I put in the DD3's, the clutch would slip at full throttle. I babied it for several months, until I could get time to have the clutch done.

Where can I get mine done. I live near Cincinnati. I want someone experienced with our trucks, if possible? Also how much is a clutch from south bend?? The best they've got.

Rusty, I am not saying you will need a clutch. Yes, I have slipped mine a couple of times. Once when I took off too fast from a redlight in Oklahoma pulling the big load of wood(23,600) gross while trying to get ahead of a power poke and once when I hammered it real hard on a big hill. I usually just let the truck have it's head so to speak. I didn't slip it on the trip last year to Kerrville and you saw how quick I could do the hills. You kinda get used to it and know where to stay at with the throttle to keep it from slipping. The subject was brought up as the mechanic asked me it if it had slipped as I told him what I was running in the truck so to speak.

It's about time you went up there and got acquainted with Dave Mitchell & family. The Mitchell clutch is built for sled pulling, get that one if that's what you intend to do. For all other applications, the South Bend clutch is an excellent choice. I've personally witnessed several South Bends stand up to sled pulling, but they recommend against it. The best they got? Another shop that installs clutches, is Van Haisley in Fairmount, Indiana. I haven't done business with him, like I have with Dave, but he and his shop have an excellent reputation. My friends really like him. Sorry, I don't have his phone number with me, I'm at work. I'll post it on here after I get home.
