My current setup is an adjustable solid shank 2"x2" ball mount designed for weight distribution bars and rated for 12,000 lbs. The ball is a chrome plated 2 5/16" rated at 14,000 lbs. The drop height is 7" which results in a level trailer. I would like to move to a 1 piece unit to increase the ground clearance but could use some input.
Here are my questions:
- Are there any 7" 12-14,000 lb rated drop ball mounts available?
- I found 2 5/16" gooseneck hardened balls rated at 25,000lbs at a reasonable cost. Could I use this instead of a "standard" hitch ball as long as the shank size and lenghth are correct?
- I did find 8" solid shank drops rated at 14,000 lbs and a raised shaft (1") gooseneck ball that would result in the 7" I am looking for --- any reason why I should not go this route?
Thanks -- BTW the trailer is a Shoreland'r boat trailer that weighs in at 12,000 lbs fully loaded.
