Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Bang

My lil brother was drivin down the road today and was shifting from 3rd to 4th, he heard a bang and then lost the ability to accelerate, the engine revs but it is like the transmission isn't even there, any ideas whats goin on guys.

it is a 97 12v std cab long bed 2500.

Guessing a broken flexplate or shaft in trans.

sounds like input shaft. If the engine starts, then he did not blow the flex plate. Call Dave Goerend @563-778-2719. Order some shafts, put a good converter, VB or just get a full trans, he's the best price on transmissions and the best customer service and warrenty department around. Make sure to leave a message if you can't get ahold of him.

Is your brothers truck a manual? He might of ripped the center out of the disk.

sorry i did forget to mention it is a nv4500 5 speed truck too.

Clutch could be broken or he broke the input shaft. I had a Centerforce clutch fail on me and it felt like the input shaft had broke until I got it apart to find the clutch in a million pieces. Turns out it was installed wrong by the service tech, now I do my own clutch replacements and haven't had a problem since.

I ripped the center of the disk out before in my daytona, it was exactly like you are describing. I guess 350 ft/lbs of torque from a FWD 4 banger WOT in 5th gear the clutch didn't care for it! I used to have a picture but my computer crashed a month ago and took all my pics and everything else with it.
