Is this a single bang or repetitive??

If it stops with driveshaft D/C you know its beyond the transfer case. Check the slide gear in the CAD housing, make sure the shift motor isn't hanging up. Has the 4WD light lit? (motor at end of travel).

its a repetitive bang with revolution. I checked the shift motor and no signs of hang and the 4wd light comes on. the shaft ends arnt chewed up for the slider. diff ring pinion and spiders good. I cant figure it out and dont want to run 4wd and break the tcase. any other wisdom, i need all i can get at this point. thanks

My CAD first started going BANG about every 3 seconds under a hard load pulling a huge International semi with huge full horse trailer up a hill in Klamath Falls Oregon. After that almost any pressure on the cad would pop it out and sometimes the collar would ride on the splines and kinda bzzzzzzz against the tips. Again really hard to say whats going on with your truck.

What part of a transfer case would bang and not break??

Check your PosiLok cable and see if it popped the cable back a little.

cad is fine. cable is good position is good. This truck has over 200,000 4x4 miles in sand pulling a fifthwheel camper on long island. thats right out of 600,000 miles 200,000 are 4x4 miles. so what part of the transfer case would bang and not break i dont know i build harley davidsons for a living and not transfer cases!! Maybe its the fact its a 241 dld is p. o. s. got a 271 D on the way built custom and clocked. thanks for your advice!!

271D and 241dld is more than I know about transfer cases! So you know more than me. Even though you are just a H. D. builder lol. I know when I looked at my transfer case I wondered how it could take so much torque!

Make sure you get back to us and let us know if the transfer case fixes the bang problem
