Has anyone modified there banjo bolt between the fuel filter housing and the injection pump?



I had a leak at the fuel filter housing so today I replaced to O-ring gaskets there and at the injection pump. The banjo at the F/Filter housing looks way restrictive.



I drilled out the holes(to 3/16") on it and chamfered all the hole in both banjos. I also shortened the screw on the pressure check hole. This picked me up 2 pound of boost and more smoke:D :cool: :D



My lift pump still clicks when cold though it is not as load as it was, so I guess it's next for replacement.
 
This did make a big differance. I can get boost now at lower RPM and it pulls so hard the trans is making a really strang noise during this time(it doesn't sound good). There is some power here from doing this, I wonder if it would be even a bigger increase to get rid of the banjos completetly and replace them with a direct line?????
 
On the product forum Ray T???? is selling a set of five high flow banjo bolts. One even has an 1/8" NPT to connect a gauge. I ordered a set of 5 with 2 have NPT connections. Cost me about $20. Check it out... it's probaly worth the dough.
 
SLang, I had no idea these where also for us properly valved CTD. I thought these where just for the 24 Valvers.
 
I thought they were for the 24v'ers as well. Are the banjos the same on the 12v and 24v. Will these work. If so I'm going to get in and order a set. The price sure is right.



Anybody know if the ones that are being sold on the product forum will work?

My bad! After talkng to the guy, I actually had a set on order for a day or so, I got my head out of my a$$ and relized the bolts were not the same. I also put a bug in the guys ear that alot of us guy with the good Cummins would like to enjoy the same benifits. I say we all post in support of him producing 12V banjo's.

What about the lift pump to filter head bango?. The injector return line screws into the top of it. I'm going to pull that one too and see whats up.



I think all we are going to need are 3 bango bolts from Ray? 2 of the 3 bango bolts are tapped for a 10mm? air bleed & fuel injection line return. Correct me if I'm wrong.



I still have my fuel pressure gauge hooked up. Hopefully I will post tomorrow night on how it went.
 
Bill I was looking at that tonight. I'll pull it and modify it hopefully on the 4th of July... .

I sure hope so, Dee. My poor old Ram is feeling pretty, well, sickly and needs more :D

Checking fuel pressure under load is one of the many things I need to do sometime this summer.

Need more air, maybe more fuel too :rolleyes:
 
Dee, I did this to my truck over three years ago when the truck was still nearly stock. I, like you, had a look and the passages seemed a little small so I drilled them all out (3). There ar 2 at the filter housing and 1 on the side of the P-pump. My transmission really growls at me below 1700 RPM - it must be those dam banjo bolts:D ! Marc
 
I did this a few years back. I didn't see any gain.



You all that are pondering this should check your fuel pressure under a load. You too Joe. ;)



My fuel system always checked out fine @ idle and high idle with no load. (service manual test). But when I tested it under full power the pressure would drop to less than 3 psi.



I went about changing lift pumps and overflow valves and filters. Exact same results. This prompted me to build my own auxillary fuel system. An electric pump with its own fuel pickup in the tank and spin on filter. I tapped the banjo bolt going into the P7100 for fuel delivery. Now under load it never goes under 40 psi.



If you're pushing large amounts of fuel the entire system needs to be addressed not just the banjo's.



The best test is for a few of you to hook up a pressure gauge and do a little WOT driving. We're always looking for an excuse to do that anyways, right? :) Then report back some HONEST info on pressure readings before and after your banjo modification.

If someone will make 12-Valve banjo bolts, please add me to the list for a set. Primaraly the pump banjo with a build up head for a gauge fitting.

I agree with Chris here, the dyno will not load the fuel system enough in a short run, a WOT run will be the best test. I can pull mine down to 7 psi on the stock system and with the aux like Chris's I can maintain 33 psi at any MPH.
