How do you feel about companies pandering to illegal aliens?

Bank of America's New Credit Card Targets Illegal Immigrants

Reuters : February 13 , 2007

NEW YORK -- Bank of America Corp. has begun offering credit cards to customers without Social Security numbers, typically illegal immigrants, the Wall Street Journal reported on Tuesday.

In recent years, banks across the country have been offering checking accounts and even mortgages to the nation's fast-growing ranks of undocumented immigrants, most of whom are Hispanic, the paper said, adding these immigrants generally have not been able to get major credit cards.

The new Bank of America card is open to people who lack both a Social Security number and a credit history, as long as they have held a checking account with the bank for three months without an overdraft, the Journal said.

Bank of America tested the program last year at five branches in Los Angeles, and last week expanded it to 51 branches in Los Angeles County, home to the largest concentration of illegal immigrants in the U. S. , the Journal said.

A Bank of America spokesman was not immediately available to comment.

I don't think it is right. But hiring them isn't either.

I wouldn't want to take a credit card form any one that only had a bank account for three months.

I think it is DISGUSTING! It is another way to ENCOURAGE the invaders to come here! We need to DISCOURAGE them by REQUIRING them to get registered (documented), PAY TAXES, and speak friggin ENGLISH! I am sick of all this bi-lingual crap!!!

Lets not forget that all of our families were immigrants at one point im pretty sure that not every ship carrying families from europe 100 years ago stopped at an immigration checkpoint such as Ellis Island. And there really wasnt anyway to insure that they would pay taxes either. Do I agree with giving tax cuts etc. to illeagal aliens? No I dont but giving them a bank account im sure wont change anything for us US citizens and will do nothing but make them more responsible with their finances. Im tired of the speak english or get the **** out mentality. IF someone told our grandfathers that and they listened id be driving a Fiat or id be sitting in a flat somewhere in the UK.

Back when most of our grandparents came here they wanted to be American and did everything they could to fit in. The ones coming here today don't want to be Americans they just want our money and that's all. They want all the rights we have but most don't want to fight for it and definately don't want to pay for it.

I guarantee that there weren't any "English as a second language" instructors at the schools back then. There weren't any paid translators at the government offices. There weren't signs up in Spanish, Italian, French, German, Polish, Russian, etc. like there are Spanish signs now. The immigrants that came over here learned the language or did without. I have no problem with people coming here legally and doing what they need to to fit in, but don't change my way of life to accommodate someone that has come here illegally, skirting the law and their legal obligations. How many of my tax dollars have gone to pay these translators, put up these signs, produce bi-lingual forms, pay "English as a second language" instructors, or payed for the increased law enforcement? How has their infiltration affected my childrens education?

I'm getting madder and madder with every word I type so I'm through for now. Have to go calm down. #@$%!

"English as a second language"

Why not ESF. . as in English as a FIRST language!... . Then, one's native tongue as a SECOND language!!! I know thats how our forefathers did it to fit in.

My grandfather spoke Polish when he got off the boat. It was tough for him to learn English. But my father grew up speaking both... Polish at home and English in public.

My wife's mother's side of the family were German immigrants who settled (as did many other German families) in the Texas Hill Country. When she started public school in Boerne, Texas, she spoke no English whatsoever - German was still spoken in the home. The school made no accommodation for her (or any other German kids), even though Boerne was a predominately German community, and she learned English very quickly.

Although the first generation may not learn English or not use it as a first language, the second and succeeding generations historically have become Americanized fairly rapidly. That doesn't seem to be the case today.

I grew up in Los Angeles county California with many illeagals that were in ESL none of them or their families were trying to drag society down. Im sure plenty of them just want to be here for a free meal ticket but many are decent hard working families who are trying to make it in a new world. All im trying to say is us "Americans" are not completly not guilty of the matter none of us are native americans real native americans were all but made extinct by our culture

I can only speak for myself, but it's not a question of immigration per se. The problem is illegal immigration.

The measures being taken in our country today to encourage illegal aliens to come here is unbelievable.

Why would they NOT come here? Heck, I want to become a Mexican citizen then come here and get credit cards and not pay taxes, and get free education and health care. I'd love to have all those benefits. Plus wouldn't it be nice to have the U. S. government bending over backwards to accomodate me? Then, to have all the companies pandering to my interests, it would be great.
