E_ brakes

Are the E-brakes worth the money?? I tow and I wan't one (what diesel owner in their right mind wouldn't ) but... are they worth the$$$? Are any one of hem better than others?? Pac brake or Jake brake?Oo.

E-brake worth the $$???

I always tow and I wouldn't be without one if they cost twice what they do. I think anyone else towing, especially with a 5speed, will say the same thing. My last brake job cost close to $2k with new rotors and drums and all. The E-brake cost $800. Since I got the e-brake I hardly use the service brakes above 20mph unless some dork pulls in front of me. Especially then, it's nice to have the extra braking. Go for it. It only has to save your butt once and it is worth every penny.

MNSHO FWIW:)

O.K , Larry B.

I'll make sure I get one soon as I come up with the $$:D First I need flat bed and 19. 5's but next is the E-brake!!:D But witch, wich is whitch??:--) Pac or Jake????:-{} :D I'm thinking pac because I know their $700-$800 for a 90. I need header and stuff  oh well! WHAT ONE:confused:

I remember looking at them all. I finally decided on the BD because it did not use a waste gate. I believe BD's method of allowing exhaust pressure to open the butterfly against spring pressure provides the best low speed braking. I also wanted one that was vacuume operated, not electric or air pressure.

I'm sure other types fit other criteria better and work well for others but the BD 4" remote mount was the one for me.

For What It's Worth (FWIW)

LarryB,

If I have a "Mystery switch", it’s a mystery to me. I cannot find anything, and I have looked all over. It is my understanding that for the exhaust brake to work, the converter must be locked. I do use second gear. I think the original owner was ripped off because he lacked the "Mystery switch".

I know what you mean about the “car” transmissions. I swore off them when I sold my VW. I decided that if I wanted to row something I would get a little boat. ;) :D

Yea, it does have to be locked up otherwise it just creates heat and it is hard on the transmission. Do a search for "mystery switch" and see what pops up.

The pac brake is vacuum activated to!!!:( I will probly get the Pac brake because the BD for my truck is $900!:--) the pac totals shipping, header kit&all for $741 with the BD stick switch!!:)

LarryB

Are Jacobs ... . electric? I went to their web site and I think they are!!:( I wanted to get a sticker that said JAKE BRAKE:{ Oh well:cool: pac will do just fine:D thanks, Frank

??witch brake??

has anyone checked out or own a super duty d-celerator exhaust brake from us-gear? according to them,? you get a lot more braking power at really low rpm's. it mounts on down in the down pipe so no restriction on exhaust and it will not get as hot. although it does cost a lot more it could have enough advantage to warrant the extra cash.
