Banks exhaust help

Hi guys,

For the last 7 years I've been down on the 24 valve list with my 01 and have'nt payed much attention with what was going on up above me. Now I'am in a bit of a quandary and I need some info.



The family just picked up another Cummins, this one is an 05 quad cab 2500 auto, from an out of state dealer (not Dodge). The price was right and it is a clean truck with low miles. The previous owner had installed a Banks 5" exhaust. There in lies the problem.



During installation of the exhaust the CAT/particle filter was removed and a "test" pipe welded in place of it. Now it will not pass New York State inspection due to "missing emission equipment". #@$%!



My question is three part:

(1) Would this have been a normal procedure during installation of the banks system? (I think not)

(2) Should a 5" Cat/particle filter been included in the Banks kit?

(3) Are all the bits and pieces, including the CAT available separately from Banks or are we looking at buying a whole new exhaust system.

Im pretty sure you can get just the cat from banks but it will probably cost a pretty penny. I would price some other systems while I was at it just incase you can get a whole new one close to the same price.

The Cat will Not be available from Banks, Also Banks does not have 5" exhaust, only 4", also all . 04. 5 Banks Monster Exhaust are Cat Back systems. The former Owner May have installed a 03/04 cat Back system in Place of the 04. 5 and up, it just bolts right Up.

As twest said... I have the banks exhaust on my 06 an it's a cat back only. Only the 04 and earlier had the turbo back exhausts.
