Talked to them today, considering buying the Monster Exhaust, and the Ram Air with the Super Scoop.

Guy that was on the line said the Super Scoop does not have problems with the rain and snow in the NW.

The truck is used for trailer pulling, and going snow skiing. Had it over a year, and only have 8200 miles. (Have to get a little bit more retired. )

Planning on a 6000 mile trip this May, and since will be M-T on the first half, and mid size U-Haul on the return trip, just looking for the best light throttle fuel mileage.

I figure #'s will get better as I put on the miles, just want to help them along.

Personally, save your money. You will gain nothing on mileage & maybe *50 drop in EGT's (I'm being conservative on that).

Best thing to do (especially on these new emission trucks) is keep up on regular maintenance and as the mileage goes up. A tad better the mpg will be. The only way to get better mileage w/ these new trucks. Is delete the emission stuff, but good luck if something goes wrong.

I agree. Very little cost/benefit. The exhaust will make is sound better if that's important, but I doubt you'd notice anything else but a light wallet. The PSM intake would probably get you the same benefit with less cost.

I think you can get almost the same effect by putting on a muffler elimination pipe and a K&N air filter for a lot less money.

banks is not worth the money you have to spend to get a little power if that, and your not gonna see anything on the intake or exhaust no matter what company, the stock intake is the best one out there, there was an article in a tdr about it. Wait a while and see what happens with the market, if you really want to do something get the egr/emmission delete, that is improving mileage the most of anything.

General consensus by most on the board is Banks is expensive for the gains you get. Banks does make a few nice pieces, just pricey.

RideSlow have you checked out Northwest Bombers ?

I have visited the web site, it has been some time since I did, they seem more oriented to high perf on the 5. 9. I intend to attend one of the meets, but my schedule is still tight, and family comes first.

The reason I was looking at Banks, is the research they do, and I was hoping to find someone here that had run the setup like I was considering, and had recorded the mileage and circumstances under which used.

Old habits are sometimes good habits, I record and calc mpg at every fill, and also indicate location. Not hard to do, most all cell phones have a calculator built in. Hardest part for me, is to get a consistent fill level, dad gummed ULSF bubbles up some times.

Once the truck is off warranty, all bets are off, will just hang the stock stuff from the rafters, in case we ever go to testing.

there is a saying on many forums Im on, "Friends don't let friends drive Banks" like I said just give it a year or two and wait for the other companies to get everything ironed out and they will/already do make a better product, most of the time its half the price of banks and you get more power out of it, trust me, I may not have been in the bombing arena for long (2 years) but I have done lots of research. I also have a very good mentor that just broke the record for highest hp common rail, so he knows his stuff and has taught me a lot of things.

And yes carhenge is weird but lots of people come here from all over the world to see it.

I remember reading about the stock intake vs. the aftermarket stuff, but I think it was on a 5. 9.

Main goal is to get this thing a little more mileage, for my light throttle 3000 mile trip this summer, and even the return trip will be a light load.

About that EGR delete, I am not knowledgeable enough to figure out just where the butterfly valve is. New to the diesel. I did pull the plug, and the truck threw a soft CEL, and I did not see any change in mileage.

I have been thru Alliance, had to stop by Car Henge. Strange.....

Thanks, I may just wait it out. We have a good shop close to where I live, might stop by and see what they have been doing with the 6. 7. Last time I talked to them, it was too new to have much going on.

There's 2-3 members now with 6. 7s, one here in Tri Cities just installed twins on his '08 using the stock turbo as the primary: Truck Tear Down - BOMBER Board

The big Northwest Bomber event of the year is every February, that would be one to come to if you're able to. . . lots of guys getting together to do projects & talk trucks and everything else. It'll either be in the south Sound area or up in Arlington. Can send you a PM when a date is finalized if you like.

That would be great, appreciated, thanks. Chehalis is not too far away, I may run down just to look. As I noted earlier, I won't be doing a bunch of stuff, just want to make it run with less fuel.

Could be me ... but it seems that Banks is against smoke. I have seen some of the most powerful diesels in the world ,and the more smoke. . the more power... . I have heard different takes on this and understand the theory but I am convinced Smoke = Power . Maybe there is a very costly way to make a bunch of power without the smoke , but I'll take the smoke!

On a RV forum I visit, one of the members was pulling through California, with his modified diesel, and he was throwing smoke. Pulled over, and cited and grounded, for modified emissions. He was not impounded, only because there was a dealer nearby that they could red tag him to. He had to put the truck back in yr of MFG compliance, before he was allowed to proceed. And, he was not plated in CA.

So, throw smoke if you want, but I have met some very knowledgable officers, they are very aware of what should and should not be visible, I will keep my mods under the radar, as it may be.

Message to PSM Diesel:

Gentleman, I appreciate your posting of test results, however, the only ones I have seen are from the 5. 9 with the manual trans. Do you have results with the 6. 7? Since the 6. 7 has more stock power, and also more emission controls, I am just looking for better mileage. I am looking at a 6000 mile trip this summer, half empty, and half lightly loaded. I don't plan on adding a box/chip/whatever, and it seems most drivers are not getting any better results from exhaust mods. So, the place to look is intake, and you seem to have hit on the right combo. I just would like to see results, either in house, or a link to valid test by an owner or a magazine. Thanks in advance.

Will let ya know what they say.
