Hello all, I will try to keep short. I have an 02' 2500 quad with a banks big hoss. Since putting it in I have had nothing but trouble. Going down the road the truck loses power or feels like you put it in neutral for a quick second. Does this repeatedly. So I disconnected the big hoss and the truck barely went down the road and the check engine light came on. I love this truck but I just don't know that much about them. 2 months ago I would put the truck in drive and it would start in 3rd, they put a new solenoid in the tran. and it still did it. Turns out the blue wire to the throttle was chaffed and that was that. What is wrong now? Code 1693 showed up. I searched the site for info and found little. Please help if you can. How do I take that crap out and get back to normal/stock. I didn't even notice that big of a difference.

Thank you so much for the time. Rob/ Idiot

888-839-2700 is the Banks technical and installation support line. We sell Banks products, but have not sold many of their Big Hoss for these trucks.

You won't get much help with the Bank's stuff on here as very few people run it. The general concensous is that it's overpriced for the power gain it provides. Your attitude also probably won't help. We didn't put it on or buy it, so please don't take your frusteration and exasperation out on this site that "RULES" because it hasn't magically fixed your truck. Take it out on the dealer who installed the system, or Banks who built it. Did you ever ask any opinions of the big hoss before buying it? I hope you get it figured out. If you do maybe you can explain to all of us what it needed, or how to remove it. You can always follow the directions in reverse to remove it though.

Is the Big Hoss the only thing you put on your truck? No fueling box, turbo housing, etc? In that area you would have potentially disturbed the wires to the grid heaters and being that it's winter and potentially cold that could make a difference when you first start up and up to 20 mph or so for the first few minutes. I would look at any wiring in the area that you were in that you may have disturbed. There should have been gaskets between the air intake and the grid heater and then the grid heater to the manifold. If you didn't install the gasket or tore it you could have a boost leak. Also check the plumbing between the intercooler and the big hoss to see if you have any leaks there.

As far as the 1693 code, all that is telling you is that there is a companion code in the ECM. You will need to get an OBDII scanner to pull the codes and see what's up.

We also need to know a little more about your truck. What else do you have on it. Gauges, any other chips or timing boxes, injectors, air cleaner... ?

Sounds like it could be fuel pressure issues. Does the Banks kit tap into the pump wire or the pump harness?

I apologize. I didn't mean it that way. I am frustrated with the truck and it is something that I probably did. Between 45 and 50 mph right before the truck shifts into high/last gear it has two to three power losses or spurts. It is probably the booster sensor. I did the power level 5 big hoss, high ram intake, 4" exhaust. Booster, tran temp and egt gauges. I will get this thing figured out, this is the baddest truck out there. Again, thanks for your help.

Most likely it's one of the connections to the banks box. Check the power connection, the connectoin that goes to the fuel pump wire, and the map harness (I believe the banks box has all 3). My bet would be the pump wire connection.

I change the fuel filter and don't know how to check lift pump fuel pressure. I think it is a connection or a senser becausen it happens at the exact same time everytime.

It can still be the pump. On your VP44, there is a schrader valve (like a tire valve) that you can hook up a portable fuel pressure tester (auto parts store $15 - $30). 12+ PSI at idle, no less than 8 WOT on the road.

My truck has the banks ottomind and Ive seen the 1693 code a couple of times over the past 2 years and it is acoumpanied by the short power loss you described, every time it has been the boost sensor connection, unplug it spray with electrical cleaner dab a little dielectric grease on it and maybe that will cure the problem, good luck.

I would definatley get a fuel pressure gauge on that thing. These banks boxes are hard on the vp44. Especially level 5. There is a test you can do to the big hoss, I remeber it from the manual when I installed mine. I would call banks, ask for Jim in tech support and explain the problem to him. They stand behind their products.
