I purchased the Banks High Ram intake to replace the "Plain Jane" stock one, and going to paint it black to match my new valve cover. I just bought it for the looks. Does anyone know if there is any real performance gains going with the wider mouth of the Banks intake as compared with stock?

Thanks.

Chris

He will be along shortly, I just have the pleasure of viewing the modifications in person ;)

Thanks John :)

MJawsman, the pics Bob Wagner posted are of my Ram (including my chrome PDR HX35 turbo assembly).

As for the valve cover, I started out with A Cummins "red" valve cover and milled off the raised ribs and lettering, decking it with an orbital sander to achieve a FLAT surface for the "billet look" I wanted. After spending MANY more hours grinding and sanding the remainder of the valve cover, I had it chrome plated. Likewise, I had a friend turn a billet aluminum cap which I finished much the same way as the valve cover (i. e. , same corner radii, same clean billet look) that press fit onto the OE oil cap. After it was chrome plated, it was bonded onto the OE plastic oil cap via two different high-strength adhesives. All in all, both turned out to my liking (and that's not easy). To top it all off, I had my OE '98. 5 (large head) valve cover bolts chrome plated as well.

My chrome plated Banks High-Ram is another story.

I started off by detailing every cast "Banks High-Ram" letter... . I spent countless hours perfecting each and every letter with my smallest die grinder and a variety of carbide burrs. About twenty minutes prior to completing the very last letter, I had an idea! After some careful self deliberation, I decided I wanted the clean, billet look! So, in another twenty minutes, I ground off all my hard earned effort on my beloved High-Ram. :{ I kept thinking, geez, I hope I made the right choice. Even now, I'm REALLY GLAD I went the way I did.

After many more hours of careful grinding and sanding to eliminate ALL imperfections AND TO eliminate ANY small flat areas, I had my High-Ram chrome plated.

Just like my PDR compressor housing, it was nickel plated, inspected for slight imperfections, flats or other blems that might detract from the appearance, copper plated, polished, copper plated, polished, copper plated, polished, nickel plated, polished, and finally, chrome plated. Talk about the full meal deal! And the price for all this? Heh, heh, heh, I'm not talkin' :D

****the High-Ram had to have more copper baths, as did the Holset compressor housing due to the porosity of these specific castings****

Just wait until you see what I've been working on lately!

The engine bay will never be the same again!

:--)

I'd write a novel describing how nice it all is, but you know what they say about a picture! :D

Maybe I'll get the chance to see it all in person sometime.
