I am looking at both of these intakes to see if they work. I have done a search here and on another web site and have had read mixxed reviews. They were mostly old post so I am checking on if anyone have seen much of a difference that is worth 300 bucks or not. I already have an AFE Stage 2 and exhaust work done so I didn't know if the stock intake still is restritive as they are clainming. Feel free to shear any insite to these products.

ATS Arch Flow manifold

I've done everything I thought possiable to help my Cummins breath easier. 5" exhaust turbo back, AEM Brute Force intake, SPS 62 Turbo and last but not least ATS Arch Flow manifold. I changed the intake manifold to the ATS Arch Flow manifold a week before I changed the Turbo and put on my ATS exhasut manifold. What I noticed with just changing the intake out was the engine didn't lug anymore. Usually I had to go into second when turning into my neighborhood, I could stay in 3rd after that and make the turn. The boost was a lot smoother. It came on smooth and spiked smooth, it wasn't just whooosh, spike and fall on it's face. It was just flat out smooth. I don't know what year truck you have, but I did have to wiggle some stuff around to make it go in, but it was really no big deal... Is it worth the money, IMO yes it is... Do you "really" need it, probably not, but do we "really" need SMARTY's and TST's and all the other good stuff that out there... :-laf Banks can keep their design... Look at the Arch Flow and then the Banks, which one looks smoother flowing to you?

You know I question that all the time, but it has to flow better than the stock box... My plunger is always sucked in, but I just can't see spending $400 on the AFE stage 2... I replaced the AEM filter with a Pro Guard 7, so it's just stright 4 inch pipe with a heat shield now. As long as my turbo sings to me and doesn't talk to me like after market turbo's can if their not breathing right can, I'll leave things be.

My questions how does either of the two intakes work. They do look cool and probably flow smoother, but still, the hole going into the head is still the same size.

why bother the stock one flows just as well. look at high horse power trucks 85% dont have an intake. me i think its a waste of money. spend on better things. :D look at it well the holes are the same your paying for some tapped holes for nos/ water meth

i have the brute force intake and the plunger in that thing (not sure what u call it)thats located on the tube. that tells you if u need to change the filter. always gets sucked down to the bottom. does this mean the filter is to restricted?

Yes.

For those that say the stock,Banks and ATS intakes all have the same size... ... ..... look again. The 3rd gens have some pretty good restrictions in the way around the bolts. Is it worth the money?

How restrictive do you think those bolts are blocking the air flow on those aftermarket units? And did they just create a larger heat sink?

I chose the ATS because it has the tapped holes for the boost gauge as well

as water/methane injection. As far as improvements in power go , there are

no " seat of the pants" ones in my case.

The banks should not be used with the stock piping. look in the pic above, it is offset,,, that is a restriction. The devil is in the details...

$300. 00 for the High Ram $1,150. 00 the whole CAC system. Many customers Have sold the stock cooler to auto-Body shops for $200/300. Do the Math...

what about EGT temp drops?

im thinking HARD on an ATS arc flow, just to help a little bitith EGTs. they LOOK like they would flow more,

in all honesty i think since i have good dyno numbers on my truck, i would be a good person to go Dyno it with just an ATS arc Flow upgrade. i know my EGT's spike like it is cool... or rather NOT cool... lol

i know they will still spike, but will it let me have a second or two with the skinny pedal... ?

i plan on a turbo upgrade soon and i also plan on a pulse exhaust manifold as well. heck, maybe an intercooler upgrade some day... lol

Whats wrong with your stock intake ? I've never heard anyone say they gained anything with the aftermarket intakes. Tap your old one if all your looking for is one with holes already tapped.

my old one is tapped...

id like to throw the truck on the dyno and see if the intake horn does anything, but i would also like to help out a bit with EGT's if possible. thats why im asking about the ATS system as explained above... .

if you look at the cross section it DOES flow more, but does it flow more and benifit any way with a stock turbo.

i KNOW i need a new turbo, and when i get one i will be purchasing an ATS pulse exhaust manifold with it. from what i hear they do help with spool up a bit.

till i can afford a new turbo, id like to see if i can find more affordable things that will HELP with EGT all around... .

As far as the AEM goes I dont think it hurts performance at all. So what the plunger is sucked in. Thats has been discussed many time before... it has to do with it being so close to the turbo and not in the factory air box. I seriously doubt that a company like aem would come out with a filter that doent flow better then stock. When people put AFE filters on there erm pipe it still sucks down the plunger and all the tube is a tube of metal...

As far as intake manafolds go... its up to you and if you have money thats burning a hole in your pocket. I can think of many mant better things to buy for my truck the an aftermarket intercooler and intake man. It would be one thing if there were tons of posts like" WOW I installed the Banks High Ram and I have tons more power, or the ATS intake turned my truck into a HP machine. You will NEVER see threads like that because it doesnt change much if not anything. It just looks pretty. You couldnt pay me to put a Banks High Ram on my truck... ... well yeah you could but it would have to be alot... .

Think of all the other better things you could buy for the $$$ spent on thoes intakes, or start saving for a real mod like a larger turbo instead of putting fancy stuff that doesnt belong on a truck like yours because of the stock turbo. .

I actually remember some members reporting HP loss after using the high ram on 2nd gens... . Most Banks guys are just in denial.

Big Dan, thanks... thats the kind of input i was looking for. you bring up a few points, some that were coverd by myself, but i guess i needed to hear it from someone else... ill just save for the larger turbo... lol
