I have a 04 DCD and was wondering how big of a difference people got with the Banks High Ram Intake? Is it worth the money? Thanks

Not too sure of the difference it makes, but I am pretty sure ATS makes one that is of comparable price, and has a few tapped holes for NO2 or whatever if you wish, I should be able to tell you by the end of the week how the ATS unit works on a 2nd Gen.

If you search both this forum and the products and accessories forums you will find your answers. There's a guy on DTR who just posted about it, too.

As far as I've seen, the 3rd gen fit leaves something to be desired. The intake boot has to make about a 1/2" to 3/4" shift to the side in order for the manifold to fit to the CAC.

It looks to be this way with both the Banks unit *and* the ATS.

I'm not sure how they say the units will improve flow if the silicone boot has a big kink in it. Someone mentioned that it has to be off a little so it fits both 2nd and 3rd gen trucks.

Whatever, a lot of mega hp trucks are running the stock intake and doing just fine.

IMO it's not worth the money. Get a less restrictive air filter/intake instead, and maybe a high-flow exhaust.

I agree that the ATS intake horn is better because of the tapped holes, etc. It looks cooler too. :) I read a post about a year ago where somebody put the Banks High Ram on his truck with some power upgrades. He did some dyno runs before the High Ram and after. He lost a little bit of horsepower with it on, not much, just a few. He called Banks to ask about the loss of power and they responded that it only works properly with Banks fueling boxes, etc. hmmm??

Was told and read several times over a few years that the HIGH RAM is really for HIGH H. P. trucks and its more of a EGT/little more air device then anything. Helps lower EGT'S so more air and fuel can be used to make MORE H. P. I did see so dyno graphs several years back and it does work. But in HIGH H. P. applications.

Banks Hi-Ram

I can't say what the real difference was. My truck runs good and looks good. My wife laid down a few laws and one was it had to match the color of the hummingbird feeder off the porch.

Hi-RAM

Banks ads say this Hi_RAM helps in low RPM breathing. My truck in a hard pull with 5er NEVER gives me a problem with high EGTs in my lower gears. The only time my EGTs get on the high side is when I am on a long grade with converter locked in. Even then the EGTs never got over 1150 on my last trip from NC to southern Illinois. I would say I have the right combination.

Better air IN and better exhaust OUT is always the best combination.

CHolman , your money would be best spent in other areas, as the high rams aren't much more than 'engine bling' in my opinion. They don't offer any real performance gain or measurable EGT reduction. As cheap and easy as they are to install, if they were that great we'd all be running them. .

Installed the Hi-Ram on my 99 with TST box and Banks exaust. The Hi-Ram was installed after the other mods and it looked cool but that was all. Never on a dyno but no seat of the pants difference. Waist of money!!!!!!! Did they make a new one for the Gen-3 or is it the same unit as the Gen-2?

IMO, the weak point is the entry to the intake plenum where the air goes in either direction. Maybe the air could flow with less turbulence getting there, but it's still gotta get through this.

Help me get over this :)

You won't see a big gain. The new technicooler setup on your truck will definitely make a difference it replaces all piping and hump houses with much larger parts. The intercooler is also much larger than stock.

We installed the ATS intake on my '02 last week, and I think it feels a wee bit snappier on the very bottom end, but that aside it seems more cosmetic than anything, thought he ATS is very nice due to the covered ports for NOS or whatever, oh yeah, the port happened to work well for the boost gauge too.

Looks pretty cool on my O3 but that is the only difference that I have noticed, besides the hole in my pocket and the fact that it is harder to change my fuel filter.
