hey:)--i saw an ad in diesel power mag for a air intake manifold for our cummins(one for the duramax too)has any one seen or used it?what are your thoughts about the manifold?good thing or promo bull s**t?thanks for your tyme----LEE

Well the nice thing is the accessability to port the intake side of the head. You'll have to pull the head and have the old intake plenum milled off to mount the new one.

I'll bet you its going to cost several polished pennies though.

SO IS IT FAIR TO SAY THAT IT NOT A "BOLT -ON-PART"? it was hard to see the pictures in the magizine, sounds like you say--alot of polished pennies! any other fabricators of air manifolds?

It is 100% NOT A BOLT-ON PART. The head HAS to be removed and taken to a machine shop. They then remove the whole intake plenum. It would almost mirror the exhaust side, then new holes are drilled and tapped to mount the new intake.

take a look at these pictures:

Project Sidewinder | Banks Power: The Big Hoss performance intake manifold from Banks Power provides increased airflow to the Cummins turbo-diesel in Project Sidewinder.

Had it on order fro My 03, when I relaized that i was going to lose My heaters (Live and Travel in the North -0+) I had to cancel.

Your alternative is the ZZ Fabrications manifold. It's the same deal where you have to pull the cylinder head off of the vehicle and have the stock plenum milled off. You do have the option of adding nitrous spray bars on the ZZ. It's impossible to give prices on porting and polishing, since everybody does it differently. While you have the head off the vehicle you are going to have to decide how much additional work you want done. You can do things like go to heavy duty valve springs, install hardened valve guides, and oversize your valves. I had mine done by Scheid Diesel. If you are serious about it, your best bet is to pick up the phone and call your chosen shop to figure out exactly what you want to have done and what the total is going to be.

The ZZ's come in both top and side entrance versions. You can keep the intake heaters if you get the top entrance version like I did.
