Banks Intake

Thought I’d check out the Banks website for ****z and giggles this am. I was intrigued by the coil heater that Banks is using instead of grid heater. I wonder how well it works as a cold start aid.

My take on adding and/or changing components on the late model trucks is don't. They are highly refined, efficient, and well engineered. All the automation and sensors make them very sensitive to changes. I tried to add an oil catch can in line with PCV and it threw a code. no likey.

Keep your bucks and truck's reliability, IMHO.

Banks makes high quality products. BUT....don't "F" with your warranty.

I’d be interested to see some dyno runs and possibly some fuel efficiency data. I have added better intake horns to past trucks and they did have small improvements. (No dyno numbers) SOP dyno did feel better.

Grid heater would be a definite choke point. Interesting nonetheless. Plenty of guys in southern climates remove grid heaters.

It looks nice. I will say that when I installed the Banks intake on my 05, it seemed Like the engine wasn’t held back. Wasn’t a huge increase in power just felt less restrained. I didn’t run a tuner. Was all stock. Maybe this one would do the same on the 6.7’s

that part swap looks like a project to install. the older i get, the less i like fiddling with cars/trucks. seems like the reliability goes out the door. i did install a banks turbo on a 86 6.2 diesel blazer i have. the kit was great, i didnt even have to go to the store for anything. banks makes nice stuff. not cheap though. cheers!

Gotta love that "peek airflow and performance". I'm thinking you need a bunch of pricy no-EO parts to take advantage of it.

I know. But, it seems the intake system is also pretty sensitive to flow and/or air pressure changes. I used to upgrade the air filters/housings, but on my former 09 4500, couldn't keep it from throwing codes. Same as mentioned on the oil catch can.

I like more HP/TQ too, or at least not one of the lower tunes offered but, not at the expense of throwing codes. I think the mild tunes at least function well with the OEM components, most I've read who have problems with programmers have deleted components.

As for the high flow intake horn, they dress up an engine nicely, but in the 20+ years on the TDR, I don't recall them being mentioned as a go to upgrade.

So, my comments were more about changing physical components versus tuning.

Does that get me out of the noose?

It's been awhile but the Eco Diesel fan club is just the opposite of this crew. Constantly adding this removing that. I never did and it paid properly by max care when she finally died. A clogged up intake not worth the financial exposure.
