Just install a Bank's Intercooler and boy talk about BOLT ON. Anyone who can read and knows which end of a screw driver to use, could install one of these :D . I did notice that my boost pressure droped from 22-24 psi to 19-22 psi, is that normal ? There is a noticable kick increase in the seat of the pants gauge and the EGTs are down as well :D :D . I am thinking of adjusting the timing and need some information on that. Also should I consider a new wastegated turbo and larger injectors ? Keep inmind that I am trying to increase MPG as well as power. I am currently running 18 to 24MPG(75-80mph) empty and 15 to 17 MPG (70mph-75mph)loaded with a 29 foot fiver/16 foot boat combo.

I'm curious about your conversion putting the Cummins in the 85. What radiator did you use? I want to make some of the adjustments to my pump that have been attached here but cooling for my 1990 is critical without an intercooler. Did you have any cooling problems.

Another thing thats confusing:confused: is all the high boost pressures people talk about. Everything on my rig is stock and under load I only run about 12-15 boost and about 5 under no load????? Whats up?

My 85 Truck was mostly bolt on for the conversion to Diesel. I am running a Dodge Cummins 1991. 5-1993 Cross Flow radiator which is one of the few things that has not been replaced.

crewcab,

What were your EGT's before and after the intercooler install. Where is your pyro installed, before of after turbo.

My Pryrometer is Pre Turbo, I use to run 800 to 900 degrees at 75mph and could hit 1300 REAL FAST. I now run around 650-700 and have yet to pass 1250 degrees

Crewcab,

Next is to go with pump mods and get a set of injectors. Alot of folks are going with the 16 cm nonwastegated housings but i prefer the 14 wastegated. Drop me a line and we'll work something out. By the way, I picked my 95 wreck up today and started getting some of the bent sheetmetal stripped off the front so I can try to start the beast to see how the engine runs. Looks very promising. Hoping to get more time to work on the project soon. If anyone needs some parts for a 95, I'll sell them cheap. This will help me offset the cost of my project.

Rockcrusher, those boost numbers are about normal for your truck in stock condition. The higher boost numbers come from pump adjustments, injectors, turbo housing and exhaust change-overs.

Crewcab, what core support u got?

I am having hell finding a 91. 5-93 radiator core support (that's not all smashed to pieces, anyway). Was wondering what you used. TIA

My core support is the OEM early 91 with the sides cut off and the intercool radiator brackets bolted on.

If you need more information, post in the "Conversions Forum"

The boost #'s do seem a little low. When I first got the 89 back in '95, it was running about 19# supposedly stock. After the injectors, pump tweeks and such was around 24# but without the intercooler she runs darn hot!!!
