I'm looking at the Banks Stinger Plus TLC package. I'm looking for some feedback as to the members impressions or experiences with Banks or this kit.

Here we go again!

Do a search on Banks, you'll see. when you done reading in six months. Over priced for what you get in my opinion.

Glenn

That's one of those hot button questions! Welcome to the TDR

My opinion is not good. I think you can get more for less, the banks kits do work though. If you like it and are comfortable with it by all means get it. Ultimately you are the one that has to be satisfied, get what you want after researching all of your options. The first step is asking what others think, good work so far!!

can of worms or whoop a$$

Maybe TDR should add another forum page below products and accessories forum, All things Banks. Oh man here we go again is right. Lets see who chimes in on this one. Good luck Pcarlson.

Your not just pulling are leg right?

I think the name says it all. You might literally have to go to the "BANK" for a Banks Kit. Or, better yet... you can "BANK" on having to pay $1000 to $2000 for a mild power upgrade which can be done for much less with other vendors.

Disclaimer: Not affliated with Banks (ones without tellers or ATM machines) and NOT a customer. Not affliated with other vendors either, but am a happy customer with Power Edge and Diesel Dynamics products in/on my Cummins.

mediccummin,

with all the advertising dollars they spend in here, it wouln't surprise me if it popped up one day! Just stirring to pot;) :p

Banks products are high quality and their prices are right in there with the same mods from different sources. That they are more expensive is a misconception that seems to persist on TDR from folks that have never researched it fully, basically hearsay. But I'm speaking of 12 valves, for a 24 you are much better off to stay away from Banks.

If you have the kind of money it takes to get Banks, spend it at www.dieseldynamics.com You'll be smiling all the way to the bank, after ending up with a fast, durable, proven performance package. Diesel Dynamics, Edge Products, Diesel Transmission Technology, and many others , have spent small fortunes on research and development of their products, yet are still reasonably priced in comparision to Banks.

There's not really a substitute for making the time to sit down and read through the archives of this website, if you're really serious about getting the most fun, performance, and quality for your dollar.

mixed

Well I think you can get better for cheaper. For us on the TDR who like researching, posting, learning Banks may not be the first choice.

However most Banks kits do come with Gauges, K&N filter, etc. Comparing a $300 TST plate to a complete banks kit is not apples to apples. -- Even apples to apples you can to better if you spend the time to research, etc.

Banks goes provide a complete kit, with items that do work together. This is great for Camping World. For the retired guy that buys a RAM for towing his 5er, and needs more power, but does not want to research the pieces, wants a complete package installed, thats well designed, and does not require staring at the EGT gauge when towing up the pass Banks is great.

Now you can read this last statement as Banks does not have the power that you could get. Why put in a 230hp plate when you can install a 270hp plate in your 12v. Depends on whether you want to stare that the gauge when towing or whether you want worry free power. Meaning that Banks is great for the right market place and probably sells a lot too them. For TDR members in quest of high power, do-it-yourselfers, and people willing to research and learn mabye they are not the top market leaders.

Not 100% sure but I believe Banks kits are emissions certified - meaning you won't/can't get nailed for tampering. The VA CPC has a CARB exemption I believe. I don't think the other mfgs have pursued emissions certification. Might explain Banks higher costs to some degree.

I do like the fact that Banks sells complete 'systems' not individual components. I've spoken with the folks at Banks and was resonably happy with there responses. I was/am not looking for the most peak power I can get but the "most area under the curve".

You're powertrain warranty is pretty much gone with any engine uprates regardless of what the aftermarket claims. Magnusson Moss is great to debate but DC has a lot more money for lawyers fees than most of us.

Stainless shmainless. . Unless you drive through the ocean every day to work, I don't see why you would need it. . Are you gonna own that truck for 25 years???? My 1989 had 400,000KM with the original exhaust up to the muffler. Not one rust spot. Diesel's with Stainless exhaust is just for looks. IMHO ;)

J-eh

Stainless is great

And I DO live next to the ocean. Put my boat in the water at lease twice a week all year round. I love my stainless exhaust. Saltwater and no rust. :)
