I'm trying to decide if I can replace my current muffler with a Banks 4 inch Monster muffler without redoing a bunch of the pipe. If anyone could give me the overall length of a Banks Monster muffler it would really help. Thanks.

Banks muffler measurements

I just climbed under my truck and measured the muffler, the total length is 36''. The 4'' pipe at both ends fit over the other pipe. The muffler it self is right at 20''. I hope this helps, John

Thanks for taking a look thats just the info I needed. How is the noise inside the cab with the banks muffler?

Banks is a straight through design, muffler back wil need to be replaced The stock tail pipe will hit if you try to use it

KCLaber , The exhaust sounds a little bit louder the the stock system at cruise speed but when you stand on it you can turn heads. I think I'm the only person on TDR that has drone issues with this exhaust system, at 2000- 2200 rpms it will run you out of the truck, John

Just installed the banks system , had a serious issue with drone.

Installed a resonater forward of cat to solve that problem.

Should'nt have had to do it, though.

I also have the banks cat back system. I had a drone prior to installing the system. That drone was pretty loud. Now with the banks system the drone is completely gone. I'm extremely happy with the system. My egts are lower and the idle time before shutdown is also much quicker. Just my experience.

A question for you guys with drone issues--

The Banks muffler is designed with an expansion chamber at the input side of the muffler that is designed to get rid of the drone.

Is it possible that the muffler is either installed backwards, or perhaps assembled backwards at the factory putting the expansion chamber at the outlet side of the muffler?

I had a banks exhaust, I sent it back due to false claim (shipped at the expense of Banks). They told me that the exhaust was only 3 db louder and it was clearly much louder that 3db. Later, during the return process they "clarified" that the 3 db is at idle. What the heck does any one care about idle. Straight pipes are even fairly quiet at idle. The miscommunication was clearly misdirection upon the part of the sales person, as I specificly told them that I would not accept loud exhaust as I use the pickup to as transportation while hunting and to observe wildlife. I do not want wildlife running scared when I am still a mile away. Last fall with the banks exhaust on I spooked Elk from over 1. 5 miles away climbing a hill, while I was out of sight form the elk (just circling on a ranch to get above the elk). Climbing at low speeds, accerating, pulling, or any time you need power there is going to be exhaust noise that is much louder that stock.

Curing the drone-

My muffler was installed correctly with the expansion closer to the motor, and the arrow on the outside pointing back.

I had the overwhelming drone between 2000-2200 rpm, when I first installed the exhaust. I was able to cure most of it by extending the tip as far out (away from the fender) as possible. When the tip was extended the in cab exhaust noise between 60-70 (no load) was only slightly higher than stock.

I kept the six gun as I felt it was a good product and I was happy with the performance.

From now on I trust my BS detector more when speeking with salepersons.

As with everything. Everyone has an opinion of what sounds good and bad. What is drone and what isn't. I really like the banks system on my truck and I pull my 28ft race trailer and car and have no problem with the sound or drone.

good luck

I have the Banks Monster 4" Exhause Cat Back kit on my 04. 5 600. I have no drone at any speed. Overall I am satisfied with the kit, quality stainless, perfect fit and very easy bolt on using all factory brackets. I did expect it to be louder.

The exhaust system is a little louder than stock with normal accleration. Normal cruising on the highway you can hear the exhaust a little more, but in my case not enought to pay attention to it.

If you put a load on it or hard acceleration it is definitely louder than stock, quiet a bit LOUDER. Once cruising with a load it is LOUDER than stock.

It dropped EGTs a little overall maybe 50-75*.

If anyone wants a complete Banks cat back system

pm me. I just paid 670 for this system but In guess I,m a little

to old for this sort of thing, Its been installed for two weeks

now. No welding is neccesary so its brand new except for some

clamp marks. I,ll let,er go for 350 as that would pay for

my donaldson/ resonator that I purchased from the Rig.

KCLaber,

We have a performance T-409 stainless steel muffler that is designed specifically for the 2004. 5 + Dodges. It has all the welded hangers already in place and just bolts into place of your stock muffler, no mods or rigging it to fit, just a bolt in deal. We also have the cat test pipes in 409 stainelss for those that race offroad etc. We use the 409 stainless as it matches the stock material from Dodge and will not cause a corrosion problem with electrolosyis (sp) when you join say aluminized and stainless it sets up a reaction that starts corrosion real fast.

Mark, Does the performance T-409 muffler bolt right on to my stock 03' exhaust as well? Is it a straight through design?

I am looking to decrease my EGT's a little more, The AFE-7 & torque tube intake helped some. But I can still hit over 1400 deg. 's with ease climbing a grade empty, with the Volumizer in the 100HP setting. What is the sound like in the cab?
