Have 99 2500 with automatic. Want to do some upgrades for power and mileage.

Saw that Banks power has kits already put together (exhaust, air, etc) just wondering if this is good way to go.

The hardware is top notch,I have seen too many failures with the electronic portion. I also don't appreciate hearing it won't void your warranty speech. D/C because of Bosch has very explicit instructions to inspect for any VP-44 tampering. The Banks system is one that taps this wire and will void your warranty. Being a 99 this point is moot in your case but it is their way of doing business :(

Like Bob said their engineering is top notch, BUT I started there and have just about replaced their entire package for other mods that actually help increase horsepower and torque. By the time I am done I may only be left with the twin ram and exhaust brake.

You just need a good local coach to pick the correct parts ;) :-laf

I would piece a kit together before I went with Banks, that's just me though. Banks is to expensive for what you get... The only thing banks I would get if I really thought I needed it, is the Banks Techni-Cooler...

I Agree with CHolman in NC. I'd put together parts and improvments that are a lot less expensive than Banks. Call Rip at Source Automotive in Portland Oregon. his number is (866) 211-1533. I've delt with him for several years and have the same truck as yours and I'm extremely happy with the upgrades he's done. I have a 4in exhaust from the turbo back and EDM 65 hp injectors and an EDGE Comp box with an AFE air filter. The truck runs great somewhere over 300hp at the rear wheels and gets 22 mpgs on the hwy and 18 towing a 7000lb travel trailer. Central Oregon

Its your choice though. How ever, if you want to save a little green and get great results, E-mail Piers and tell him what you have and want to do, He'll recomend the best to achieve your end result.

I did this for a friend, and at half the cost of a banks, But sad to say the friend bought the Banks. The Drone on his truck is so bad I hate to ride with him. He bought the whole package, $3600. 00 worth.

just my penny's worth.

Marv,

Here's my take on Banks: Good - One complete system designed to work together and tuned to your engine/turbo with safe guards. Put a TST on a stock motor, set it to 9X9, stand on it and something will break. Many non-Banks up grades take a level of knowledge and responsiblity to work well. With Banks, you won't have to worry about "is my turbo gonna be enough for this or that combo. " One order, one shipping price. High quality, well engineered, although I had two wiring harnesses go bad with a long time chasing electron to figure it out. Both warranted without question. I have had good consumer service.

Bad - Expensive (but you get what you pay for???). Relatively modest HP gains but designed to work with stock turbo (and trans). Banks will flat out lie to sell products. As mentioned above, the part about not voiding your warranty is BS and I don't like a company that will lie to sell. A powerpack will need a transmission up-grade. If you drive careful, stock trans will probably do OK (I could slip the TC with mine) but it will shorten the life.

Do I like my set up? Yes. Would I buy Banks for my next truck? Doubt it, I don't like pressure box on HPCR

I agree with the Tinman. If you plan on doing the upgrade yourself... the kit comes complete except the pipe tap. Very well engineered and easy to install. I did have a Ottomind go bad, but they replaced it free and upgraded it to a Big Hoss. Very much appreciated :) Not sure if I would buy the entire system again, since I have a greater knowledge about Bombs. They are pricey, but you get what you pay for. Just adding the DTT to mine made more of a difference than the Bank kit. Don't get me wrong my truck runs and drives great... but getting that cummins power you have to ground makes a huge difference. My 2 cents worth

I totaly agree about a good trans. It is pretty much pointless to up grade an auto with the stock TC. None of the extra power gets to the ground until lock-up and then there not enough holding power in the clutches anyway. My next truck (if it's and auto) goes from the dealer's lot to a DTT installer.

Thanx

Thanks for all the two cents. I'm in Ontario and can't find anybody who knows about such things so all the advice I can get will help me make an informed decision. ;)
