Cummins mistaken for Power Joke!?!

2 X dually snow chains

I saw one, it was pretty funny. I was going down I-25 to Colorado Springs. It was dark, I was in my Mega, in the right lane, I came up behind him slowly and saw an aftermarket 3" exhaust. It was a regular cab long bed, 2500 I think. I passed him on the left and looked at his driver's door. A big ol' "Banks Power" sticker on the door and an A-pillar with three gauges, lol.

I guess he probably has one thing on me, mileage! And possibly no payments!

A) Dodge probably passed Chevy like it was standing still :-laf

B) Banks stickers all over driver's door (why advertise for Gale?) :-laf

C) It's a Chevy 6. 5... the only diesel lower on the totem pole of all diesels is the 6. 2. :-laf

That's what I thought was funny, anyway... :-laf

I agree with JUeckert whats so funny about that??

I CANT stand when someone bashes on others for no reason. . cause a guy doesnt or cant afford to have a 45K Dodge Cummins and has a sticker from a company you dont like you post about him on the internet. .

It always makes me shake my head when someone laughs at others expense... . Not trying to start a war,I just dont see the humor in it.

Stepping down off my soapbox

Pardon...

Please pardon us... . there is a contagious ailment running around!!!

It's called WIT! Some of us get it, some of us don't... :-laf

Can't afford a soap box either, so I won't step on or off of it. :D

See my sig... I am surprised that there is even a banks kit for the 6. 5 Gee it was just yesterday my wife said that the "service engine soon" light came on in her 6. 5 suburban. I had to disconnect the batteries for a few minutes and reset the ecu. Problem solved. I just wish the 6. 5 was as dependable as my 12v.

And yes, they are all paid for.

Wow, sorry for stepping on other people's toes. I said it was funny, not that the guy was a moron for buying one or trying to BOMB it!

If it was a stock truck I wouldn't have posted it, but the fact that its advertising "Power" on a 6. 5 is what struck me as funny. They didn't have enough power to tear up a half-ton frame because they put them in those too.

I laugh at imports with chainsaw-sounding, coffee can exhaust tips too. Guess I should stop!

well,i asked what was so funny,it was a simple question and nothing more. but based on past post's you have made, you always seem to have an issue with the other brands, thats your buisness. however you may want to consider that there are many on here that drive other brands as well, just like the folks over on the diesel stop show you consideration. i have three dodge diesels, models 90,91 and a 05, every one bought and paid for. what i dont find funny is that every one of those dodges has had more issues than both my banks equipped gm diesels. what i do find funny is when someone driveing a 10 to 15 year newer dodge or ford pulls up next to a 82 model gm diesel expecting easy prey, more often than not they are proven wrong. enjoy the good fortune of driveing a new truck, there are many on here that cant or simply dont want to for whatever reason. but then there are some on here/out there that own many different trucks, you may pass them one day in a 07 model brand d,or they may pass you the next day in there other ride,an 82 model brand c...

Well I guess I shouldn't mention I drove a '82 Blazer for about a year recently with a Banks equipped 6. 2. It was pretty quick off the line but no match for a bombed Cummins, but I don't think my '98 could keep up with it (at least to about 50). It would rev like a sonofagun, up to 4800 RPM if I didn't pull my foot out of it. Boost would peak around 11psi which is plenty for 22:1 compression.

It may have had something to do with the '86 Ford 6. 9 I had for two years that had problems after problems. Or maybe the two 6. 5s from a local pavement company that would always try to race (and lose) my '99 Cummins with a Blue Chip...

Oh, and I ride a BMW motorcycle so don't get me started on Harleys (or that thing they call a fashion trend).

This just shows that each of us has had differing expericences. I have had my Dodge since new in '95 and my 1997 6. 5 Suburban since 2002. The suburban has cost me more money in repairs in the last few years than my Dodge has in 11 years. Also the electronic IP pumps on the 6. 5s make the IPs in the 24v appear bulletproof, my chevy has had 7 injection pumps since it was new.

Can you say "REPOWER"

I agree... ... . I had a 1995 2500 6. 5 for a while. Really good truck. In fact most of the truck was better than the Dodge. IE: the steering, trans. , body, etc... . Tough *** truck. I can thump the door with my fingers and dent the Dodge. The Chevy was heavy and solid. I will give the nod to Dodge on the interior. Just a better layout.

But... ... That damn engine would eat some injection pumps and PMD's. When it ran..... It ran good (better than the Dodge IMHO). But when it didn't..... OMG what a piece!!!! Hicupping, Sputtering and leaving you stranded in BFE.

One thing about the Dodge (Cummins). It either runs or it doesn't. The Chevy would do weird things in between making you think every thing is OK (false sense of security). Then the damn thing would just die on you without warning.

Give me the 2ng gen. Dodge any day over that thing. Shame... . The Chevy was a great truck when it ran properly (not often enough).

Anyone ever see the factory down pipes off a 6. 5? What a bunch of morons... .

Rant... ...

Enough,

AJ

That would be a good thought, however rather than spend the money on a repower of a suburban, I would rather find a 7. 3 powerstroke in an Excursion and repower that eventually...

I've got a 93' chevy 3500 with a 6. 5TD it has nearly 500,000 trouble free hard miles on it . yes it's low on power when pulling but it gets great fuel economy . The later electronic 6. 5's are problematic and I wouldn't buy one

I've got an '83 GMC 3/4 ton with a 6. 2 and it has been nothing but trouble. Can't keep a starter in it for more than 4 months (and yes, they have been shimmed correctly) and low on power would be an understatement. As soon as I find a good deal on a 3. 9bt, it (the 6. 2) will be going to the recyclers to become razor blades. Maybe I'll paint a big "Cummins Power" logo on the door! :D

do you have the factory brace installed on the starter? these trucks do not have shims on the starters,if yours does, then there is an issue somewhere. since 1982 my oldman and i have owned 8 different gm diesels,6 6. 2's and 2 6. 5's. still have all of them but 2 of the 6. 2 trucks. with mileage anywhere from 80k to over 400k,not a single one has had internal engine work, nor left us stranded. the only one that could be considered problematic is the computerized 6. 5,two injector pumps at less than 200k . all but one of these trucks have been used in hard service,[ranching and construction,]and all the rigors that go with that line of work. my 6. 2 turbo, and one of my 6. 5 trucks ,will both pull a heavy trailer just as well and in some cases better than my early model dodges. since 96' i have relied on ford diesel power to do most of my heavy towing, and have been 100% happy with both of those trucks[both 7. 3's]. with the introduction of the ford 6. 0 ,i decided it was time to give dodge a try again. thus far my 05 has given a couple of minor issues, one involved being stranded. time will tell if the this ones a keeper. to be brand loyal is a personal choice,in my opinion its a choice that deprive one from something possibly better on the other side of the fence. in the end,you pay your money and take your chances...

Yes, the brace is still there. And you can shim the starter... how else are you supposed to get proper flexplate/starter gear alignment on an early GM engine otherwise? As far as brand loyalty goes, I have none. I still own my GMC, a 1996 F350 with 7. 3, and my 2001 Dodge. The one that gives me the least trouble? The Dodge. :D Therefore, it is my favorite. And you cannot compare a GM 6. 2 to any Cummins 5. 9 of any vintage... . especially when it comes to power. You could spend upawards of $10000 with Peninsular Diesel on a 6. 2/6. 5 to get the power you can get out of a Cummins with only $1000. And last of all, this IS a Dodge/Cummins website... I hope nearly all the people on here enjoy and are proud of their Rams. I know I am!!!

one thing you gotta say about those 6. 2's is they make fuel mileage, We have a camper van 420000kms, with a 6. 2, 700r4 combo and on the highway at 65 mph we get 28 mpg measured with a log book , reciepts and calculator.
