Welcome to the TDR.....

Some here like Banks, and if you want an expensive, one-shot upgrade, they could be a serious contender. Do not be influenced by their "won't void your warranty claims" because it is just unadulterated B. S.

My advice is to go real slow on this and do a lot of homework before you spend your $$. If you do a search, you'll find enough reading for a week.

Good luck with whatever choices you make.

Well... ... .

If you want to waste your money on something that has marginal performance, and is way overpriced.

Sorry to be so harsh, but Banks is not in the competition when it comes to performance with a Cummins Diesel.

I would suggest first, a set of gauges.

2. a transmission or clutch upgrade (www.atsdiesel.com, www.southbendclutch.com)

3. fueling box (Edge, TST, blue chip)

4. air filter (bhaf, scotty, kn)

5. mild set of injectors (diesel dynamics, ats, bully dog)

I would suggest you kick back and wait a month or so before spending your money. I was just like you 6 months ago before I came to this board. So what I did was checked out all of the new threads for a wile (2 months) and then made an educated purchase. Ive been following the TDR for about 6 moths now and I've learned so much just by "reading" posts. (I only have 4 posts)

What I tell others Banks is a great well enginered product, but has the highest HP/TQ per dollar.

In 6 months I bought

*Edge Products EZ Edge Fueling Box $495 worth 65hp 187lbtq at rear wheels.

*Genos Muffler Elimination $65 for cooler EGT's Faster spool up and better sound

*Next in line is a Bhaf(air filter) $45 for cooler EGT's and better flow

Theoreticaly you could spent $675 and get all the power of the banks power pack in just one fueling box

yes i seen everone talking about edge and was just wondering if banks power would be about the same. i thought the price was a little high but was not sure what to go with i have read alot on different power add ons. i drive the truck ever day to work and want it to last dont want alot of power just a little more, i have a kn filter now. where do you look for that bhaf filter or is kn just as good? thanks for all the advice

The best bang for the buck is the Edge EZ. It will give you a little more zip, and probably won't mess up your clutch. It is easy to install, and can be taken off, in a matter of minutes, if you need to go back to your stock configuration. You can always sell the EZ later, and add more aggressive HP mods (i. e. Comp EZ, bigger injectors, etc), but you had better be ready, and willing to beef up the clutch... JMHO... ;)

I ended up buying the Banks, despite the extra costs. After figuring what it came with all in one pack and how it was designed to work together it seemed like an affordable package deal.

I got the the TLC package (comp with 4"exhaust, bigger actuator and gauges for both turbo boost and exhaust temp).

If you were to buy everthing seperately you might save some money, but are you gaurenteed it to all be compatilble, that is the part I liked.

It went on faily easy with the right tools, about 1. 5 hours.

The power was instantly noticed. From exceleration to pulling hills.

As posted in another area, I am having a transmission problem (seems to try to downshift at about 55 mph while pulling a load) and I'm expieriencing some cutting out at about 60+ mph. I don't know if either is related to the Banks system since it started about a month or two after I installed it.

Anyways, I give the Banks system 2 thumbs up!!!

I can't see where you are from but there is a TDR chapter almost everywhere now. You could get together with them and one of the guys will for sure have an Edge EZ box. It takes about 5 minutes to take it off another truck and install it on yours. This is done at virtually all the TDR get togethers. Also, I'm sure the guys at Edge Products would let you try one and return it if you didn't like it for some reason. I went with the Edge Comp box for $100 more and just left the pump wire loose for now. That's the same as the EZ. This way, I can turn it on or off inside the Cab and hook up the pump wire when I want some more power. I have never turned it off though and never will so really there is no point in having an on/off switch. I will however hook up the wire soon so that the extra money was worth it. The Edge EZ by itself is fantastic also.

I have a 2002 3/4T 4x4 auto and I recently installed a Banks Power Pack on it. I haven't had any problems. I had a 1999 3/4T 4x4 auto and had a Banks system on it also. I have read that a lot of people either don't like Banks or they think something is better. In my experience, the Banks system gave me the performance I wanted and their tech department was always helpful if I had a question. Their workmanship is outstanding and I like the idea that they build in some safeguards into their systems. I agree about the warranty--make no mistake--the dealer will see that system and will try every way they can to disapprove a warranty claim and even if there is some doubt whether it is valid, by the time they get through arguing about it your truck has been tied up for a lot longer than reasonable. Bottom line I guess is that if you want something to smoke the tires and blow off fuel dragsters you probably need something other than a Banks system. I know a lot of people disagree but this is just my experience. Happy shopping--all these toys cost money!!!!

more for less

I'm not all  at Banks or anything. It's more like .

I do all my own vehicle upgrade/maintenance/repair work (except paint and body). It took me about 20 minutes to figure out that you can do more HP for less $ if you stay away from Banks.

I'll bet 70%+ of the folks around here are doing their own mixing and matching.

Keep reading and shopping and enjoy smoke.
