does anyone have any experience with the banks power pak on a 1st gen. it sounds like a real good setup, especially because i really didn't want to get into the pump or wind up with a smoker, just a little more power for towing.

From reading in here, the Banks set-up is ok, but you can do a lot better for a lot less by doing things yourself.

You do not have to be a smoker to have more power... . and the mild pump tweaks are really easy to do.

You give me the money you would pay for a Banks setup and let me work on your truck. I'll have you smiling with the new power and I'd be smiling all the way to the bank with what was left over. :-laf

SEriously, like Jay said, you can get more and spend a lot less.

I started out 10 years ago with a Banks Power Pak - now the only thing left from it is the 14cm wastegated turbo. As Jay and Carl have said save you money and build your own setup.

Hey Jleonard, how did you enhanced the airflow box on your truck? Any pictures? Thanks

I just took a 1. 5" hole saw and swiss cheesed the stock air box

That's pretty much what I did too... . except I used a 2 1/4 inch hole saw.

I can't give any egt or boost numbers to say what I gained because I didn't notice any real changes there. But I didn't like the fact that with the stock box the filter was getting dirty in only one spot... where the fresh air duct comes in... . now it gets dirty in lots of places... . that tells me it's an improvement.

$2000+ for Banks power pak III and most of it is getting trashed. Just didn't perform well enough for towing. Gonna follow the TDR mods and use PDR recomendations!!! I just need a little more for towing - approx 225hp.

I bought a 95 single cab 4x4, autotrans last year. I just got some gauges for it. I have not done any mods except put in a straight pipe. The previous owner said he put in a banks power pak. What exactly does the power pak have and how can I tell if really is there? He gave me the info, but no receipts or anthing like that, just his word. Truck pulls like a monster. I can go 50-55 up pretty steep grades with over 8000lbs, Should I expect more? What can I do if it does have the power pak? what should I do if it doesn't?

My transmission has gotten hot a couple times, but trans specialist said I didn't do any damage. Amazing huh. Should I get an aftermarket trans cooler?

Thanks

Welcome to the TDR!

You may get more answers to your Q's in the 2nd. Gen. forum. The banks power pack is specific to the year of truck and 94 saw major changes to the Cummins, so most of us 1st. Genners don't have any specific info for your model.
