Thanks, TDR Staff

New truck is almost here!

just did my first fuel filter change

Hey wonder what is going on, I live in No Ca and mine fell off too. .

Strange???

It must be the rough roads. I was lucky enough to have a HOG Exhaust sitting in my garage to take it's place.

Txredneck,

The SpeedLoader is an optional add-on to the Six-Gun that increases the output of levels 2-6 by roughly 10%. Level 1 is always stock.

Dleno,

The install of the Six-Gun on an automatic requires three T-taps, two for the TCC circuit monitoring and one to provide power to the Six-Gun. Manual trans trucks only require the one for power. All other connections are done via factory style connectors.

You are correct, removal of a catalytic converter (or any emissions control device, for that matter) is illegal for on-highway vehicles. That means that as a manufacturer, Banks must design an exhaust system that retains the cat for those vehicles that come from the factory originally equipped with a cat. I don’t know all the breakdowns, but we have found that for both model years (03 and 04) there are some vehicles that are equipped with cats and some that aren’t. Our primary test vehicle is a 2003 (built 11/02) 235 HP California model that IS equipped with a catalytic converter. That means that all testing that was done on that truck was done with the catalytic converter in place. “Recommended airflow improvements” in this case means a Monster Exhaust that is designed to include the cat, a BigHead actuator and a replacement air filter. I am not aware of any 03-04 trucks that are equipped with resonators (all 98-02 trucks had resonators, but no cats).

Peter: There has been quite a bit of discussion about the differences in results for HO/SO versions. Whats the chance you guys could test out the package on an HO? I think the majority of the members here with 03/04's have HO's, so the results would be much more appliclable to our rigs.

BTW: I replaced my exhaust with the Monster system, and it had no CAT or resonator.

thanks Peter. that makes the data more understandable. So the slip detection still works on the 6-speeds because the box learns what rpms should be and can detect a delta?

on the connections then -- If I understood the website correctly, one of the two connections is to a solenoid wire, and the other to a wire on the ECM connector. is that correct? and these are both for the automatic only?

it must be able to adapt if you change tire sizes too I would guess.

JThiessen,

The HO has a higher stock power curve than the SO. The Six-Gun power curve will be the same on either one, so since the baseline is moderately higher on the HO, the overall gains will be less. We do have some test data on HO’s, but the Test Group Manager is on vacation until Monday, so it will be next week sometime before I can pass some of that info along to you guys.

Dleno,

Transmission slip detection is NOT active on manual trucks. On automatics, the connections for the TCC circuit are on the voltage side and the ground side of the TCC solenoid. One of the connections is made close to the trans, and the other is made close to the ECU. Only the automatic requires these connections.

The Six-Gun is compatible with any tire size. If tire size is changed after the Six-Gun is installed, then the Six-Gun would need to relearn the trans. The relearn sequence is spelled out in the installation manual.

Excellent info, Peter. I will say this too, that as conservative as I am (I don't want to raise fuel pressure) , I commend Banks for at least making a statement about fuel pressure and for suggesting a reasonable point (24,500) for moderate power gains.

Will you will offer a lower cost flavor of the six gun for 6-speed owners who cannot take advantage of the slip detection?

the 305 HP dyno information will be very useful! it is very hard to interpret the EPA 305 HP engine peformance from the California 235.

You got alot of nerv saying "Banks Sucks" and you are running a Dr P box. That guy is the biggest ripoff out there. You better hang out a little while before saying stupid stuff.....

clueless.....

You aint kidding Greg. I talked to the Dr. P. rep and he will tell you whatever he thinks you want to hear. Sounds like it worked on Kringle. ;)

Sorry about that fellas, I've actually heard some bad stuff about Dr. P myself. I wouldn't have bought the box, my Bullydog was swapped for it. Long story on that.

I've never used Banks stuff myself, so I guess it could be the best product in the world and I wouldn't know it. Alot of people say they exaggerate claims, and if your word isn't good then . . .

From what I've seen alot of the 24valvers use the TST. 5-6-700hp, been out there awhile, so I'm comfortable with the company.

I have to admit that Banks is not my choice of vendors either. They make good stuff for the 5th wheel haulin guys. They just don't make the kind of power sicko's like me need. Dr. p Is a crook with false claims and weak power. Buyers beware... .

All I say is Banks has been in business MANY years with lots of thought and testing behind their products. as i mentioned before I sold LOTS of their Stage 3 kits on 12 valve engines and NEVER had a complaint about power and or product. When we nneded support(very few times)they bent over backwards to be there and help.

Banks & slip detection

Am I to understand that the slip detection built into the Banks box moniters engine rpms vrs. drive shaft rpms & then de-fuels if 'slippage' is detected?

Interesting... ... . but makes me wonder how in the world would it know the difference between the trannie actually slipping or a transmission in a normal non-lockup situation --- or --- maybe it doesn't care --- which might be a good thing as it would slightly de-fuel intill full lock up accurs thus easier on the trans. .

Peter the white paper on the website does not mention a 10% increase on all levels; it states that all pressures are below 24,500 except for level 6 with speed loader.

there must be something I'm missing, so calibrate me please: Are the following two statements both true at the same time?

1. Speed loader boosts power by 10% on all settings

2. all pressures below 24,000 except for level 6 with speed loader which allows 27,000

I had Banks stuff on a F'in power stroke , it ran like real good! :-laf:-lafGot rid of it before I hurt it . Now I have a stock truck and I don't want to worry about it, don't tempt me!!!
