I can get the complete kit for the 2001's for $1400. 00. I think the normal retail on it is $2100.

What HP kit are you getting for that? If I am familiar with Banks, that should be around a 60 or 120HP.

60HP should run you a tad under $500.

120HP, will run about $1,200

We are giving you 200HP over stock.

The turbo upgrade isn't neccassary, but will allow you to use more HP while towing without running into EGT problems.

A turbo will also lower your intake temperature's, lower backpressure, and allow more boost, which will cool the engine while towing.

The Banks kit I am speaking of is the Power Pack TLC part number 49335. It appears to be the fully loaded Dodge kit for the 2001's. I've got a "hook up" that my shop can trade Jeep parts for to get it really cheap.

I took a peak at your company site but just don't know if I want to head down the road of swapping injectors etc... .

Please go to your user control panel, click on update profile and put your truck info in your signature block, that way we can tell at a glance what configuration your truck is currently in. Include model, trans, and any mods to date. It helps us determine which way you should go.

That out of the way, banks was too much $$ for me.

my costs (to date)

III's==========$500

gauges=======$300

comp=========$570

scottyII=======$200

SBFE=========$1400 (installed I was travelling and could'nt do it)

straight pipe====$70

total ========$3040

If I hooked up the comp I would be over 400hp.

If you have an Auto the add about $1600 to my clutch price.

It all adds up.

If you get the top of the line Banks PP TLC =145 hp//288flb

you will still need either a clutch or a trans upgrade. If they tell you different... Well.....

With that kit you will get a Pyro and Boost gauge and a 4" stainless exhaust.

For $1400 you are on par with me, except I will have more power, I have 4 gauges (Boost/Fuel Press/Trans Temp/Pyro) and I don't have the stainless 4" exhaust.

In the end it will be up to you. As you power increases you will need more stuff to keep the fuel pressure up and EGT's down, to get air in and to get air out.

LOL

edit

One last thing, remember the list price of that kit when I was thinking of getting it was over $2600, now add the clutch, the gauges, and intake.

Don't waist the money for the EZ... . Buy the comp and if you don't want the extra power, leave the pump wire untapped..... Eventually you WILL WANT MORE POWER!!!! If you already have the comp... ... . just hook up the wire and play with the settings!!!... I have the comp and 275's..... I still have the stock clutch... (I have 40,000 on the comp and injectors, no problems with slipping the clutch... But, I don't use setting 4 or 5 unless I am reving over 2,200 rpm) Do it right the first time and you will be happy... . You can find a set of 275's used for about 200 to $250. You will probably have to find a comp new... . Once they are purchased, people don't like to let go of them!! You will find used EZ's..... People sell them to get money for a COMP... . That should tell the real story right there!!

jeep39 somewhere back there you said

"If I can just plug in an ECM upgrade and really get noticeable power gains then I would be tempted to go that route. I kind of lean away from ECM upgrades just for the fact that JET makes them for a lot of half ton Jeeps that I am real familiar w/ and they do not perform as claimed. The 24V Diesels I have no idea if they work as claimed hence the questions"

The answer is Yes the boxes really do work, just the EZ alone really wakes up the truck particularly around 1800 rpm and doesn't usually push EGTs over safe limits.

On banks web site: http://www.bankspower.com/test_results_AD01.cfm they claim 297. 8 hp at 3000 rpm and 648 ft lbs tq at 1800 rpm, I have read here that around 300hp and 625 tq are common numbers with an edge EZ and Bosch 275hp RV injectors. With this combo you'll need to modify the wastegate to raise boost to 25 to 30 psi, this made my truck real fun to drive and no EGT problems with the stock turbo and stock exhaust, add gauges and an AFE drop in filter and you may squeak in under $1000, add $300 or so for an aluminized (not stainless like banks) 4" exhaust and your getting close to the $1400 you could get the Banks kit for. The high ram intake is for looks, it doesn't show much hp gain if any and the exhaust housing only appears to be included on hy35 trucks, the hx35s just get a boost elbow. Actually if all you want is 300hp and you like the stainless exhaust the banks kit looks pretty good at $1400, at $2100 list you could certainly do better elsewhere.

It appears to me you could match Banks hp w/o exhaust for about $1000: EZ, RV275s, AFE filter,gauges.

You could go maybe 350 hp or so for about $1800: EZ or comp w/o the pump wire, DD2s, better filter, 4" exhaust, gauges.

From what I've read here 300 to 350hp is about it with the stock turbo, from there on the $$ numbers and EGT issues get big really fast. If I made any mistakes correct away, I'm mostly just shopping out loud anyway:)

Thanks for the ton of good info. I spoke w/ MR. Pinnetti ( ?? ) spelling may be iincorrect... I think he said Ted. Own the shop in CT. He said just the opposite... he said go w/ the Banks kit and the Fass system. I guess just like anywhere else you can speak w/ several and get several different systems. But he was all over the Banks kit. Harry at PDR spent about an hour on the phone w/ me. I appreciated his efforts a lot. He asked me good qualifying questions and came up w/ a plan explaining the benefits of each. He came up w/ these mods, tell me what you think:

Stage II injectors

Mega Cannon air flow

4" exhaust

Edge Comp

Fass system

Overlay gauge kit ( I would actually like a complete pillar replacement if you guys know where one exists ) I would like it to accomodate the factory tweeter )

I know I said I diodn't want to fuss w/ the injectors but it seems as though that is a must to wake the 5. 9 up. I just do not want to be messing w/ the truck all the time adjusting this and that. After the mods are done, just drive and maintain it.

My other concerns are w/ the engine having 185 K on it. I'm not going to hammer it but do like to play a little. Making these mods w/ 185K any issues??

Thanks for all the help.

Check this page out for a picture of my guages.

The Pillar pod is from Autometer and acomidates the tweeter well. I had to match the interior color which once I got it in the truck is not an exact match but very, very close.

Good luck.

The guys at PDR will not steer you wrong. The upgrades they suggest are very reliable. I have done all the upgrades to my truck myself (except the transmission) and have NO reliability issues. If you have any mechanical ability (and I assume you do since you talk of owning a jeep) you can install everyting youreself. If you are at all worried I am sure there are some TDR memebers in your area that would come by and lend you a hand or at least drink your beer. :D

i have a 01 Ho with the power pack, and love it . It tows my 30 ft fifth wheel with ease. Also, the dealer did not void my warrenty. It depends on what you want. I wanted a turn key truck, don`t race it just use it for towing. :D

1992 ctd 160,000miles,01 HO Banks power pack,jacobs e brake 50 gal trans flow, 30 ft forest river 5th:)

I did the Banks Power Pack tkit when I first bought my 2000 2500 and if I had to do it all over again, which I am, I would not go that path. Don't get me wrong, some of their components are great but way over priced ( Great advertising) and at least for me ... . not enough power for the money.

3500 power

Ton of good info has been sent my way and it looks like my setup will have this stuff:

4" exhaust

hi flow air box/air intake system

injectors ( stage II's or equivelant )

edge comp box

Fass system ( still not sure on this one )

3 gauge overlay

pyro, boost & fuel pressure

seperate transmission gauge

possibly Mag Hytec pan ( just for ease of temp gauge ) Just not sure of an accurate reading w/ the pan.

This is the way I am leaning. The Fass is new according to everything I'm reading so I don't know how necessary it is. I've been quoted at $2767. 00 if I go w/ all parts listed above. Anyone have any suggestions for price comparison? The above quote came from PDR. Harry has been extremely helpful. He gave me the "normal" TDR discount.

The new Banks Big Hoss box offers 5 power levels. Level-1 being 50hp/115lb-ft all the way up to level-5 at 160hp/317lb-ft. The Big Hoss also uses Exhaust Gas Temperatures (EGTs) and boost pressure inputs in the Big Hoss to give the correct air-fuel mixtures and keep EGTs under control. Of course as with any fueling box you should have 4" exhaust and air intake modifications and of course gauges.

Jeep,

The FASS system is a new solution to an old problem. The problem being that the pump that sucks the fuel out of the tank (lift pump) and sends it to the injection pump (VP44) is located in the wrong place. It has to suck fuel all the way from the tank to the side of the engine and that is too far. The FASS adresses this and also addresses the limitations (flow wise) of the stock fuel filter. There are other options to solve this probem. I chose to re-locate my lift pump to the rear of the truck back by the tank and relplace all the fuel line with something bigger. This way the pump is actually pushing fuel instead of lifting fuel. There are other solutions, a pusher pump for instance. If you search for pusher pump you will get lots of info.

If you have a day to read it read the "Pumps, Lines and whatnot" thread from a while back. It contanis more info that you can shake a stick at.

Happy Bombing.

that set up the pdr quoted u is a good one, i ran one similar to that for awhile. if u though ur ford was fast u will be blow en away with this set up:--) i pulled #17,000 on a regular basis and had no egt problems (i also live at sea level, lots of good air down here) and when u drop the trailer the fun really starts:D :D ur slow diesel truck:rolleyes: will be faster then most cars (and pretty much all trucks, gas or diesel) on the road. its a real kick in the a$% to smoke that guy next to u who "thought" he had a fast truck until a diesel flew by :D ;) :D we can sit here and talk h. p. #'s all day but i cant describe the feeling of laying into her with the comp on 5x5 (about 400+ h. p. with injectors) and just sinking back into the seat and going for a ride, its one of life simple (yet ex$pensive) pleasures. can i get an AMEN
