I have a complete 1999 24v Mexican engine that I bought from ebay to replace a 53 and need to test fire on the pallet. It is all blocked up and strapped down. What is the bare minimum wiring need to fire it. It will have some sort of pressurized fuel to the filter. Any other suggestions for things to replace before I swap it in.
Will address the KDP of course. Thanks

I suggest you use a pair of the battery cables and one of the batteries from you truck. Unless it is really cold or your battery is weak one battery should do it. I'm sure you will have to rig a harness for the IP to talk to the ECM.

Thanks for the suggestions. The engine has complete wiring including the harness that goes from the ecm to the VP44. I need to get over to the bone yard and get the other plug half (engine bay side) that goes to the engine harness. Look like it has 12 pins. I read some where it has 11. Blue chip does has a wealth of info. How difficult is it to get the converter/flex plate bolts back through the inspection hole after the transplant. Looks like a hassle. Love the old Chevy's just pull the bell housing pan.

I dont think it will be as easy as hot wiring the VP44. Blue Chips instructions are assuming the engine is in the truck with all sensors/components powered up and working. You'll need the lift pump powered up as well as the crank sensor communicating with the ecm or the engine won't fire. This may be something to reach out to Chip to ask. I called there years ago on an electrical problem. He was very helpful.
I think if it were me and I didnt know the history of the engine I would opt for a compression test first. A manual oil pressure gauge would also be a good idea for the test fire.

Found out from the electrical drawing and youtube the connector in my hand does not need to be connected to anything for the engine to run. It goes to the pcm which takes signals from the sensors on the engine and uses them to drive the instrument cluster and to regulate the shifting of the 47re. I have not tested this yet but it makes sense from the electrical drawing (three pages taped together). See the upload

Started working on an engine stand. Decided to use 2 jegs 1000 pound stands and make one cummins stand out of it. The upright need to be cut 5/16 on one side then bent plumb and welded. Later I will add the 4 swivel feet to the bottom leaving the fixed wheel bracket for a 2x4 to mount a tray to. I am hoping this set up will allow me to get at everything when the 5.9 is mounted to it. The middle leg needs to be extended by welding it to the other one, it should provide enough room to get the engine between the uprights. The head plates need to be re drilled to mount on the side of the cummins. Hopes it works out.

Ready to fire it up. Pan was crushed with a gash (beat it back together, brazed it up an pur some rtv over the top for good measure. Wired it up per stick note.

It fired up after I bled the injector lines. For some reason it does not like the 16 meg video. Any suggestions on how to get it uploaded?

Yes, it seem to run ok. There is no turbo connection to the intake, and it has a miss but I think it due to being cold (about mid thirties here) and lots of smoke. Starts right up now and apps seems to work fine. The more I look at the whole project the more tempted I am to just load up the engine in the back of the truck and sell as a package, lick my wounds and get on with life.

I hear that, I imagine just the swap is quite a project and then if there's little Gremlins you have to chase down....
