According to the letters section in this month's American Rifleman, Lapd wanted him to send the rifle after the repairs, and he told them to send someone to pick it up. He wasnt' gonna send it to 'em.

And did anyone read the March issue of Reader's Digest and the article titled "Showdown"? The second paragraph states; "the tall, imposing sharpshooter had loaded his 50 caliber sniper with 5. 5 inch armor piercing shells. " Nowhere else in the story does it mention him even using the 50 cal in the shootout with the police. Is this just another attempt my the liberal media to cast a bad light on the 50 cal. rifle??? I would just about bet on it!!!!

And here I had just subscribed to the RD again and I'm gonna have to cancel!!!

The AR-50 uses a weak AR15 lower reciever. I would not recommend that. The . 50 caliber puts out much more pressure than a . 223 so it would make sense to use a stronger reciever. Kind of like GM making those 350 diesels with gas engine rods. Doesnt last nearly as long as an overbuilt item.

The gun I own is an EDM arms 50 cal model 99. Super strong reciever. Can be made to shoot not only 50 cal but . 408 cheytec or . 338 lapua rounds. Gun is fully tactical take down and can fit in a backpack. :-laf

link to the item is:

edm arms model 99

The Armalite's lower is NOT A AR15 receiver. It is quite strong. It only looks like an AR15 from the trigger down ... thats it. The rifle is quite good and very accurate. It is a good rifle to "get into the sport". Saves you some money so you can spend more on a good scope.

Again-

You always with anything get what you pay for. The armalite AR-50 is a very good functional gun. The things are very loud compared to the EDM rifles. The recievers are modified and based on the AR-15 design. Last time I saw one, it was cast. No treated. Good rifle but many cheap parts that could be improved upon.

I saw the end of it, when the guy was bragging about how he bought all the 50s through his "network" and illegally shipped them to his fake hunting club and with relief supplies. I liked how Ed Bradley kept asking all the right questions to make the US gun laws look bad and get the right answers

I would like to know if the interview was conducted in the US why the guy he interviewed is not in jail? He explained he exported 100s of 50s illegally and how he setup a fake hunting club to ship them to, and packed them with relief packages that are not checked for weapons. Why did they pick the 50? what were they using it for?
