Never!! There was an interesting program on TV about the larger rigs and their need "flex". There is so much torque being put to the ground, and with the weight their pulling, if the body didn't flex then there woulfd be a whole lot of parts on the highway. LOL!!

Took the words right out of my mouth! A c-channel is has less torsional ridgidity than a box frame. So for applications where you're really putting some twist on the chassis, you don't want a box-frame. Remember, the harder something is, the greater the tendency to "snap" rather than bend. Ever notice the way OTR trucks tend to twist up when they launch from a stop? A hydroformed frame wouldn't bend, it would just break.

Living in the northeast i am also concerned about the possible rust issue with the boxed frame. Having owned toyotas i have had to repair frame sections due to rust from the inside out. Is the steel any different that is used in hydroforming? Or should i expect this to rust like the toyota?

God I hope not, from what is being written about this new frame technology.

especially when the brokers who are really wanting to save weight are opting for the aluminum frames...

Don't know if it will help, but once or twice a year I'll spray some flat black rustoleum into every access hole I can find in the frame (and the body, for that matter). I follow up later with some WD-40 or other petroleum product.

Welding the frame does not void the warranty. There is a TSB that gives specific guidlines for welding and drilling our frames.

my goose ball was welded into place 36,000 miles ago, hauled horses, hay, tractors and even a broke down Furd :D

RBattelle, WD40 is not a petroleum product, it's panther p*ss, you should know that :-laf

The two biggest advance in the Auto manufacturing during the 90's were advances in corrosion resistence and tire improvements.

Yes I want more steel to protect me in a crash but wish my truck had polymer panals like my Saturns so I didn't care who I parked by in a lot.
