Basic Motor Install Question

I am ready to install my newly rebuilt motor back into my 05 Ram and wanting some suggestions about installing the block first and then putting the head on, or can I put the head on the block outside the truck and build as much as possible then put it in? Which is easier? Thanks

It is really a personal preference. If you go in with the head on you will most likely have to raise the cab a couple of inches so you don't have to fight it. Most technicians pull the head. Also if you have access to a mig welder you can cut the small cross member between the head lights out and weld it back in. It gives a better shot in with the engine. Cut it in the center on a 45 and back it up with reinforcement when you weld it back.

i always install the bottom end first, then swing the head, i put the ex manifold and turbo, injectors,connector tubes, rail and lines on the head while it is out of the truck and swing it as one big unit, being careful not to bang the tips of the injectors as they protrude, but i would make sure all dirt and debris are clear from your cowl as when you are dropping in the push tubes into the lifters you take a chance of letting some dirt fall into your engine on the 5 and 6 cylinder where you have to push them into the cowl holes

I think I will fully dress the entire engine and drop it in..... I removed the cross member that in front of the truck and it looks like it is a easy drop in. I let you know Sat. afternoon.
