Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Other than TPS?

I am replacing my batteries on my new 97. I want to run series 31 with 950 cranking amps instead of the series 27 with 750 cranking amps. Is there a problem with running the 31's? I was also wanting to tune up my new truck. It is a 97 with 58,000 on it. I have straight piped it and just recieved my jig to put a stop to the KDP. I am not getting the greatest of gas mileage but that will change. I have changed the oil, oil filter, and fuel filter. I am really asking what to do to make it run the best.

Please help

Thanks

Russ

PS I am making an appointment with Cummins to get it timed and the Valves adjusted.

Rnolen, I have a buddy here in Abq who can do your timing and other adjustments. I can give you his name & number if you want, and I'm sure he will also be interested in your Jig. He will do whatever you want, from mild to wild. As for MPG's, well, check out the thread titled "Injector's, what's best" for a rather enlightening discussion on the subject.

Can't help you with the batteries, I have an old dinosaur body.

:) Thanks for the reply. I just checked out the thread you were talking about. PM me the gentlemans name and number in ABQ. I posted a reply on the injector site. I really want my truck to run perfect. I am still interested in seeing your dinosaour. I think I am going with the 31's I don't see any problem with having more power. :D

rnolen - If you want more MPG, everything I read says to set timing at 15. 5 degrees. I doubt if a dealer will set it any more that 13. 5 degrees.

I suggest you follow through on Hutchew's suggestion.

Are you sure you need the new batteries? You could buy a nice fuel plate with the money. :)

To BOMB wisely, do your homework. Use the search feature of TDR. Only after you sift through all the BS, and identify the valid info, should you part with the dollars. Some of us tend to state what we think we heard as truth. Ask questions.

Hutchew - does your guy have pixie-dust? LOL :-laf :-laf Oo. Oo.

Reddog,

Thanks for the advice. I think that I will set the timing at 15. 5. By the way I am in Los Alamos NM. The batteries are dying so I do need the new ones, or else I would definately buy the fuel plate. How does the timing help out with the MPG? Where is the search feature? I am somewhat new to the TDR and the Website.

Thanks

Russ :)

If you look at the top right of your screen, you will see seven gray buttons. The right button says "home". Just to the left you will see the "search" button.

Just for sport, left click the "search" button. When the search page comes up, type in "timing" (without quotes) in the search field. Be prepared to read for a while.

I cannot offer you any personal experience on what to expect on mpg increase on the timing change. I have read as much as two to three mpg. Perhaps someone with personal experience will chime in and inform us.

Too bad you have to waste your money on repairs. It is much more fun to break them than to repair.

Expecting shipment in mid-January......

Fresh load of pixie-dust AND mystery oil (not to be confused with SNAKE oil).
