Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Air filter question.

I went to Costco this morning to buy some new batteries for my truck. Although the old ones seem to be in great condition, they are 8 years old. And I dont want to get caught up in the mountains and have my batteries fail.

At Costco, I looked in their battery book and found that my truck (2002) should use a group 65 battery. I looked twice just to make sure.

When I went to install the new batteries, I found that keeper on top did not fit the new batteries. The new batteries are wider than the old.

Has anyone run into this ? I bought my truck the week after 9/11, so it was made in 2001. Should I be using a battery for an 01 ? The Costco guide said my battery was for 02-09, and there is a different size for the 01

Thanks,

TRat

That's a bummer! Did you ask the guys in the tire shop? I bet Costco has wrong information in their book. You can return them and go to Sears or Wal-Mart.

When I replaced mine 4-5 years ago, costco didn't carry the right size for my truck so I bought 2 that were rated the same or better but were 1/4" to 1/2" wider so when installed the hold downs got spread out a bit but still work just fine. Tom

Grizzly,

Nope, didnt ask them. I just opened their book and took it for granted that it would be correct. Im going to take the batteries back to them tomorrow. This time Ill measure the old ones first and see if their recommendation for an 01 is the correct battery

T-Rat,

I think you need a Group 27 battery - Costco doesn't handle them (at least the Tumwater store said so). I replaced mine after 7+ years of use with Mopar. I have had good luck (7 to 10 years) with the Mopar batteries even though they were a bit more expensive.

PBJ,

Thanks, I finally called a dodge dealer and asked them about the size. They told me it was a group 27. Guess Ill take Grizzly's advise and try Sears or Walmart.

I just put a pair of Deka 1024 DT batteries in my truck. These batteries are dual terminal 1000 CCA. I paid $223. 10 for the pair. If you have any Autozones near you, their Duralast Gold Batteries are $89. 99 with core and have an 8 year warranty with 3 year free replacement. They are 750 CCA @32 degrees F and 930 CCA @0 degrees F.
