I use nothing but interstate batteries. They are hands down the best built battery in the industry. Look at their construction and compare to any other battery. If you want something a little less expensive, consider asking the interstate dealer for a seconds battery. These are in most cases a brand new battery with a flaw in the case that is usually not much more than markings. Sometimes the seconds are a battery that has set on the shelf for longer than the dealers shelf date (about 6 months) and they will last and work just as good as the new battery. I have used these batteries over any other brand for more than twenty years.

Interstate batteries are made by Johnson Control.



"Johnson Control Industries also make Duralast seen in Autozone stores, Diehard - sold in Sears, Kirkland - the Costco brand, Motorcraft - which Ford sells, some of the EverStarts, and Interstate".



Why are Interstate batteries any better than the other brands made by the the same company. Personally I've had great experience with Costco.

Grizzly thanks for posting. I use CR as a reference when I buy things for my truck or home. I have been very happy with the quality reports that they produce. Also lawrence I'm glad you have nothing but good things to say but the fact that a company did a test and they are not ranked in the top three maybe you would want to try something different. (I know thats like asking someone to stop driving chevy and start driving a ford).

Autozone has 2 year full replacement 8 years on the Batt's I have had good luck with them. The batt's that came in the truck are still doing good over 7 years old.

I have never gotten 7 or 8 yrs out of a battery. these optima's that i bought i hope to... Other then my last set that i only got a little over 1. 5 yrs out of that were interstates and i ran them dead dead dead i cant speak the same for the others. i do not have any drain the system and the truck gets driven everyday... my 2001 dodge had the factory batteries and then 2 more sets not counting the optima's. so a total of 8 batteries in 10 yrs... .

could the alternator be over charging them? what else could it be?

Hello JohnBoy5, if you think the alternator might be overcharging, check across the battery terminals with a DC voltmeter. You should see 14. 3 volts at full charge. If it's say 15 volts then yes it's overcharging your batteries. The most common sign of that is battery acid on top of the batteries and running down the sides ruining the finish in the engine compartment. Not a river of acid mind you, but you will see the wet of if.

I considered Optimas for a vehicle I was putting together. When I spoke with the Optima dealer I was told that they don't offer quite the cranking power of the regular battery nor quite the life. I'm glad to hear that what he told me isn't necessarily true.

Also keep in the back of your mind that just because a manufacturer makes batteries for several other companies doesn't always mean they're making them to the quality of their own name batteries. Look at cordless tools. Panasonic and Sanyo made the batteries for all the other companies, including Makita, Dewalt, Hitachi, etc. Panasonic reserved the highest quality batteries for themselves. That's why they could charge twice as much as the others. That is also why you don't see them in Home Depot, because the average do-it-yourselfer is not going to pay that much.



I would stay away from anyone who makes batteries for Ford. My girlfriend's battery lasted 4 years, and my work vehicle battery lasted 1 year. Our motor pool told me that Ford was replacing the batteries due to failers. Mine was swelled up when it failed.



I was looking at Odessey AGM batteries, but could not see paying almost $300 for one battery (local shop pricing). You probably can't go wrong with Interstate or Sears Die Hard Platnum, but for me, i'm staying with Optima.

I don't know if they make starting batteries, and I have never tried one, but one brand that RV'ers swear by is Lifeline batteries.

When you all start your trucks up. Does it take 8 or so secs for it to turn over. I feel that when I start the truck it seems to take longer then it would for a gas engine. But at work the diesel trucks I drive it seems to be along the same lines. I think the manual says never engage the starter for over 30 secs. Thanks for feedback.

I had a set of Die Hard Gold in mine and they lasted 6 years. they were still kicking when I replaced them but I wanted to be on the safe side since i added a 10K winch to the front. Got the for $109 each. I also have an Interstate gell battery that I use for emergencies. It sat on the shelf for three years and when I pulled it down to check the charge it was still fully charged. Never had a battery do that.
