Battery Box Drain Hole??

I have removed my passenger side battery box in order to build a bracket for my Frantz Filter. In the bottom of the box is a set of recessed channels that all meet at a deeper semi-spherical depression. At first glance I thought this would be for water collection so that the battery is not sitting in water. The only thing that bothers me is that the collection point has no drain hole. I was going to drill one but thought I had better as you guys what your thoughts were. Didn't want to drill the hole then regret it later. I have tried to attach a picture with the "depression" circled.

slightly off topic, but what is the sensor under the big plastic circle for?



I think you should drill a small hole in the battery box, personally

If that is supposed to be for a drain, then it needs a fitting and a hose of some kind to drip to the ground? What is located below that big plastic circle? Something that might be corroded by battery acid? Good question, needs an answer, maybe someone here knows- I'll take a look tomorrow in daylight at mine and see if it is the same, or different.

there is some kind of sensor that is under the big plastic circle, with wires running to it. somehow, I set it off, and I cleared the code with my Smarty, and it hasnt come back since

The sensor is the battery temp sensor.

I was a bit confused at first about a sensor under the circle. The battery box pictured is from the passenger side, no sensor attached anywhere. Just visible in the bottom right side of the picture is the starter solonoid (I think). I went out to my truck and checked the drivers side battery. There is indeed a sensor mounted below it. Guess its the battery temp sensor WUnderwood and Nate were talking about. But I think CDonaldson also has a point about running some sort of drain hose down past anything expensive.

I'd leave it alone. I don't think those channels are for water drainage unless the part you circled is in a depression. Neither of my trays have drain holes in them. And that's not the starter solenoid (which is mounted to the starter), it's the grid heater relays.
