In antitipation of the cold weather and white stuff which soon will be flying, I replaced the battery in my TD. Upon unbolting the cable ends, I discovered a crack in the positive terminal end, and the negative end just broke when I tried to bolt it back to the new battery. Does anyone have any suggestions regarding replacement of these cables or just the cable ends.

All help appreciated.

Tom

If you can get the end's replaced i'd do that. I just bought a new positive cable at the dealership and it was $68. They don't sell the negative there. $68 was wholesale price too, the guy behind the counter said he didn't want to sell it for $100.

Tom,

Go to a battery store, or a commercial electrical supply company. I think the wire I got was 2 gauge. They'll cut it to length and you'll $ave lot$ of money! :)

I got new end fittings at the battery store. The electrical supply place would probably not have those. But I got replacements for both sides for under $40 and they were heavy duty.

check out custombattercables.com. Some of the products seem interesting. Nice large cables and top of the line connectors.

Try napa , for that kind of $$$ you could buy the tools and boxes of ends and go into buisness , I paid about 98. 00 for the 3 ft. crimping tool from snap on , and you can get almost any cable end you may need in bulk at napa. If it wasn't for the current fuel prices you could drive here and I would crimp on a new end for 5. 00.

waytekwire.com also has everything you would need to make your own quality cables. I have ordered lots of other stuff from them, all quality stuff so far.

Great tips guys. Thanks for all of your help. I am going to see if I can find someone locally who might have a crimper and then get some welding cable and terminals from NAPA.

Thanks again,

Tom

Thanks Alan, I like that solution best of all. It looks like a more positive connection for the wire. With some dialetric grease on the wire, these should do the trick.
