Battery Oil?

Back in the late 50's a chemistry professor Dr. Lugar I believe at Gonzaga University developed a product that would rejuvinate a tired old battery for a few weeks or months until the plates were gone. It was yellowish thin oil that you put directly into the battery cells. I was there and it did work pretty good to get the last life out of a battery. I don't know if it ever made it to the store shelves. I would be very careful with any product like this. Regards, Lynn

"VX6" was the name of the battery rejuvinater, Haven't seen it in 20+ years, it is NOT oob.

OOB is a "halfway" between a lead acid and a gel cell. The oil floats on top of the acid thus preventing excessive loss of the acid. The reduction in acid "gas off" prevents nearly all post corrosion and wire damage.

Nothing magic about it but for whatever reason it has never really caught on outside of some UPS systems. You can easily find it on the net.

Thanks for your input, this will be my last post for a while, I have been laid off from work and do not have a PC at home.

Thanks again

John

The name of the oil is Thermoil and they have a website. No, I dont have the address. They sell oil and batteries. The idea is that the oil sits atop the electrolite and prevents evaperation. If boiling occurs and depeats the electolite, the oil coats the plates preventing damage.

I work for interstate and battery additives void the warranty on our batteries. I guess you could use that if you also think you can't sit them on concrete either :D

"FEW BATTERIES DIE A NATURAL DEATH... MOST ARE MURDERED"

----Unknown Industry Representative

BATTERY MYTH: "Never leave batteries on the ground or a concrete floor... all the power will leak out. "

This one is a "rural legend"--batteries don't care what they sit on. The truth behind this myth is that all batteries do self-discharge over time when they are not being charged, and the problem gets worse as the batteries age. Cold temperatures also reduce available power from a battery. And if dust and dirt build up on the battery tops, sulfuric acid will carbonize the grime into an electrical conductor, acting like a short circuit across the terminals and quickly draining the power.
